It was specifically the GZIP option that was the problem. I disabled that and all is good in case someone else may run into this issue.

OK, I traced it to Far Future Expiration Plugin. For some reason, when it is enabled, it breaks the gallery as well as the FancyBox lightbox.
I will try to communicate with the Far Future Expiration Plugin developer.

@imagely, thanks for chiming in. I trust you will announce when the issue is resolved via email and post.

Thank you for the suggestion @capecross, I switched the PHP to version 5.6 and NG returned to function.
Cemal
Does going back to 5.6 fix the problem? Are there other issues that may break other parts. This is very unfortunate, several sites I maintain all lack galleries and some really rely on them.

Thank you @jcweb, this is really annoying. It may not be NextGEN’s fault but there needs to be an easy roll back option for all the plugins. I can restore my site from an earlier day but it will take a while. The last working version of NextGEN will be a welcome surprise!

In the e-mail correspondence we have had the subject line has been:
[Jetpack] /support/topic/jetpack-connected-but-it-is-not/
No ticket number per se.
There is one possibly related issue that Jeremy noted to be fixed, the “View site” on WordPress.com dashboard tries to get to the install folder rather than the site_url. That was one of the reasons I brought this question up.
Thank you,
Cemal
Although we have exchanged quite a few emails on private channels, I thought I would ask this question on the forum:
Should a site respond to an xmlrpc.php request at the site root or WordPress install folder, or both?
Could this have anything to do with some of my sites connecting and others not? I really would like to get to the bottom of this problem, very close to throwing the towel!
Cemal
Have just sent it.
Cemal
Done it again! After I click to submit I end up seeing :
https://jetpack.com/contact-support/
page. I suppose that is what’s expected. Please let me know if you received it or not. If necessary, I can copy the advanced debug screen and send it to an email address.
Cemal
No, nobody replied and the site still does not work as I added to the end of the above post. The problem continues and I have not heard from team JetPack!
Cemal
I was on the site and JetPack seems to be functioning fine! I am not sure if you had to do anything on the back end or it needed to “age” for a few days! I can activate and deactivate various JP modules on the site and can manage the plugins on WordPress.com.
I would like to know for my future reference what made it work again.
NOPE! I am adding this note within the edit time window and the link seems to be broken again, it works but it does not! Like before!
Thanks,
Cemal

@lamdayap, I did what you asked for the following day and added a link to this thread as well.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Facebook share formatThank you, Jeremy. I will learn to live with it and add manual updates to Facebook. Although I am not trying to control the look of each update, just get the old look, there are more important things to worry about.
Thanks,
Cemal

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Facebook share formatJeremy, it is not the image size but the image position and the missing post title in large letters. Here is how they used to look, with a large post title below the image :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ublbzcgs9y9revx/fb1.jpg?dl=0And now they miss the title and the thin frame around the extracted text below the image
https://www.dropbox.com/s/0lvmlcewrg3se92/fb2.jpg?dl=0Sending the full picture is perfectly fine, but the formatting is clearly different from what it used to be. I personally prefer the first format and can get that look when I manually paste URLs to FB post area.
I hope I have been able to explain it better this time around.
Thank you,
Cemal
