That said, the code has become a bloated mess and is a nightmare to deal with, even when it comes to basic template overriding.
We would love to know more about what causes bloating in The Events Calendar and what features you need for your specific use.

Firstly, regardless it is a non-profit license you should be able to create a ticket on our helpdesk since you have an active license. This is for us to follow WordPress Forum Guidelines regarding premium plugins.
