In reply to: Parse error… rebuild req?Done… and done. Magic.
Suddenly up comes the site. I’ve no idea how the extra code got added because I’ve never touched the file, but all is well now. 😀
Many thanks… ten years (intermittent) work saved! 🙂
Solved.

In reply to: Two days in… blog vanished.Yeah… I posted this before a flood of complaints arrived from users of my other domains and forums arrived complaining the sites were unavailable.
I contacted the hosting service who told me (post the event) that they’d updated the server address and none of my domains would be visible until the new address had been propagated.
I was less than impressed, but thanks for checking anyway! All seems well… for now. 🙂

In reply to: Upgrade Error@esmi (again): Finally managed to follow instructions and got the site back… many thanks!! 🙂
I’m just about to start the tedious process of working through the plugin directory changing *their* names (starting with calendar) and seeingwhich is the guilty party!!

In reply to: Upgrade Error@esmi: Thanks for the suggestion but I’m not sure how to do what you suggest.
@ nacin: if I get back in I’ll try disabling it.
Right now I don’t know how to get at the software 🙁

In reply to: Insert table in article – delete all except for first lineFlaming typical. As *soon* as I post this… I find and see a table creation plug-in. Grrr 🙂
Just off to test it with 2.2.2
Well done Alex!

In reply to: Insert table in article – delete all except for first lineI’m awaiting a response to this as well. I’ve been trying to find a solution for ages – it’s a quite seriously annoying little thing and I can’t see why it won’t work!:(
(except for people telling us previously that there was a deliberate attempt made to prevent random code being inserted into messages)

In reply to: Adding Image to Header in MW1.0 ThemeSorry about the profile – my excuse is I’m using an MS-Office keyboard with a bodgy (tho improved) layout… 🙂
Will go try the fix you suggested thanks.

In reply to: “Special” pages for ongoing topics. Thanks for that… my machine has just recovered after it’s annual breakdown so now I’m back – moreor less – I’ll go have a look and see what I can come up with!
Forum: Requests and Feedback
In reply to: “Special” pages for ongoing topics.“<snip> That’s of course I’m assuming I understand you correctly. “
I think the second option would do the trick.. the ‘topics of special interest” would be on the main page instead of moving away from the blog proper… but of course they’d still be presented with the earliest last instead of first…
…. maybe I’m asking a bit much:)
I think part of the problem is that I’ve never tried writing anything with php … I sort of know where the destination is, but really have no idea how to get there.
Perhaps now I *have* the idea I ought to go away and lean how to code it myself?

In reply to: This site needs a dedicated forum.“This site isn’t powered by WordPress. It is bbPress – just take a look at the bottom of the page :)”
Oops… 🙂
/me blushes furiouslyWell sorry… but either way it still isn’t very good forum software! And the fact I thought I was still in WordPress is either a compliment to one or an insult to the other… your choice 🙂
Maybe I’ve been spolied by ‘standard’ forum presentations, but this one just isn’t really functional for its purpose.
Forum: Requests and Feedback
In reply to: “Special” pages for ongoing topics.I can see what you’re all saying… I suppose what I’m suggesting is really a ‘mini-blog’ perhaps where all posts on a specific topic can be viewed seperately from the main body of the blog on an ongoing basis.
The reason for suggesting a ‘Page’ is that Pages are seperate from the main body entirely and would perhaps lend themselves more readily to this sort of thing.
Yes you can click on ‘Category’ to get a view of a topic as a whole… but there is no real indication of which topics *I* think are ongoing or may be of interest.
Hmmm… on reflection… perhaps a sidebox with predefined and titled category listings would do the trick?? Any thoughts? Or am I still being obscure? 🙂
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: Plugin: MiniblogNever tried installing a plug-in to my sidebar, I created a post but I got the following:
miniblog_list_entries(‘
‘, ‘
‘, ‘
‘, ‘aside’, 10);Obviously doing something totally wrong 🙂 – but what?
