In reply to: Comments turned off, but comments coming through!Best thing to do: install at the very least, Bad Behavior from http://www.homelandstupidity.us/software/bad-behavior/. That usually stops a lot of it. Akismet and Spam Karma2 can help too.

In reply to: Cant drag Widgets !chuchris: you need to verify with your host what they upgraded first.
Then post back with that info, and we’ll see what could be done.

In reply to: downgrading WordPressWell, aside from thinking you should (after downgrading to 2.0.5) upgrade that to 2.0.8, yes….
Assuming you have a 2.0+ database, you simply drop the database tables (not the db itself!), delete the entire fileset in the wp installation (EXCEPT for wp-config.php and any special/custom theme files), upload the older version fileset, and run install. Then once installed, go back into the database, drop all the tables (again, just the tables, not the db!), import the 2.0+ db backup, and visit the admin section. If you get an upgrade notice, click it….
Should be good to go….

In reply to: WP and duplicate contentGeesh. Y’know, I read a fair number of blogs, some of which (like donklephant.com) have a pretty fair PR and show up pretty high in the SERPS. Guess what? They use wp, and they don’t worry about this sort of silliness….

In reply to: Can’t Upload File Image via WP-ADMIN :(You probably need to change permissions on the folders. I don’t do this myself (because it’s such a security hole, setting folders to 777), so I can’t tell you exactly what you need to change; it depends on your setup….

In reply to: Site keeps switching back to default themeWell, I haven’t installed 2.1 so I haven’t a clue – does 2.1 have a cache table? Or is this not 2.1?

In reply to: WP and duplicate contentThat’s how wp (and most other blogging software) works. That’s just dynamic engines overall…. I think maybe the only way to do what it sounds like you want is regress to flat html.

In reply to: Mis-directing linkWell, those values are fine….
Is your wp a root install? Or is it in a folder named “home”?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Mis-directing linkUm. That is SERIOUSLY weird. If you access your wp-admin options general page, what are the two values for WordPress address and Blog address?
And do you have a specialize .htaccess file? If so, please post the contents.

In reply to: Errors during the Second Step of installationPost the errors (if it’s TONS of pages, post at http://wordpress.pastebin.ca/ and post the link here), which version of wp, and if your host meets the req’s for an install of that version.

In reply to: Uploaded Theme Not Showing UpMake sure you have only one theme level folder. Your theme should be in its named folder, and in that folder you should see an images folder and the theme .php files and the style.css file.
If the theme’s in other levels of folders (as can happen with some uncompression utilities/routines) you won’t see it in the Presentation page.

In reply to: Cant drag Widgets !chuchris: sounds like a change in the backend programs on your host. Check to see if they might have upgraded something like php, mysql or apache….

In reply to: “Not Found” after my domain movedIf you have phpmyadmin access, grab a dump of your database, open the file locally after you’ve saved it to your hdd, and see if it looks like all your stuff is there. If so, then delete all the files (EXCEPT your wp-config and any custom theme files in wp-content/themes) and reupload all the files from a freshly downloaded distro of wp.
If I were you, here’s what I would REALLY do: obtain hosting elsewhere; then get a db dump from the current host (see above – and make sure the data’s actually THERE!); install wp on the new host, import the db dump, then see where you’re at.
The stuff you’ve posted about your host doesn’t give me warm fuzzies….

In reply to: How to use WriteToMyBlog word processorAs well, there’s Windows Live Writer (processing client, actually) from http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/ – works extremely well and is about as simple a little gadget to use as I’ve ever run across (since 1984 – when I got my first machine….)
