In reply to: Installed on Hostgator.com and cannot find any login pageI looked around on the URL to see if I could find any instance of WordPress. I did not. It appears it either installed in a subfolder, or it did not install at all. I’d suggest logging into cPanel and using file manager to locate the WordPress installation.

In reply to: Hosting Extra FeesThat’s exactly right! Hosts that provide you a “free” domain, do so as an extra bonus. What you are talking about is domain privacy. It’s common practice, if you do not want your information displayed on the domain’s “whois” information that you’ll need to pay a fee for them to use their address. All whois information is public record. Having your information on the whois record can increase SPAM to your admin email address you use. However, it’s not required that you use domain privacy.

In reply to: installation on laptopWordPress is a content management system designed for websites. You can install it locally for development purposes however, if you want the public to be able to see it, you’ll need to use a WAMP, MAMP, or XAMP stack to do so.
I hope this helps!

In reply to: i need help on step 4I’d suggest doing what shirazdrum said and set up a local WAMP stack. You then can build the site out and take all the time you need before you pay for a domain and hosting.

In reply to: Moving WP from sub-domain to main domain in terms of SEONo worries, iceq. It’s really all about finding how your layout of your domains will best suit your visitors and business. I’ve never really used subdomains quite like that, so it’s hard to say what impact on SEO it will have.

In reply to: not foundPHP-nuke is a third party application just like WordPress. It’s not a programming language like PHP. Sure, there’s website built with PHP-nuke just like there’s websites built with WordPress.
Look at the requirements for the software and then find out of the host meets those requirements.
Forum: Installing WordPress

In reply to: not foundMost hosts support PHP. It’s rare that they don’t. I work for a hosting provider and ALL of our servers run PHP. It’s almost a given these days that PHP and MySQL are on web servers. Are you looking at large hosts?

In reply to: Internal Server ErrorInternal server errors are generic in nature. Typically, I’ve found that these errors are directly related to file permissions and ownership. I’d suggest first looking into your error log to see what the actual cause is. I hope this helps!
