In reply to: Manual upgrade 2.7 to 2.7.1That’s so strange. I’ve seen several people say something to this effect but when I auto upgraded all I did was click to auto upgrade and it was done in seconds. I didn’t have to log into anything.

In reply to: Dashboard Looks StrangeDid you just install 2.7 or above? Does it look like this? If so, that’s the new user interface as of 2.7.

In reply to: xamppYou don’t need a second instance of Xampp. Just go ahead and install WP on the one you already have set up.

In reply to: Automatic Upgrade from 2.7 to 2.7.1I typed my FTP permissions into the form, then started the upgrade.
You’re the second person I’ve seen say something about this. I don’t get it. I clicked to upgrade. It asked me if I wanted to download the files or automatically upgrade. I clicked to auto upgrade and about 10 seconds later it was done. I was never asked for my FTP login info.

In reply to: 2.7.1 Thanks for NothingPlease quit dissing WP because you didn’t make yourself familiar with what needs to be done before you upgrade. One of those things would be the backing up of your files/database which you could have the used to restore any modifications you made to your theme/core files.

In reply to: FTP infoAuto upgrade form? I didn’t have to enter any FTP info anywhere to automatically upgrade. If someone or something is asking you to do so, don’t. It’s not necessary.

In reply to: username in wordpress.org vs. .comBeing able to sign on to the forums on .org has no bearing on being able to sign up or even login in any way on wordpress.com.
Correct.
Now, not only is my preferred username taken (by myself), but my email address also already has an account connected to it, but not, apparently, an account that can actually have a blog.
You can sign up at .com with the same username but not the same email.

In reply to: upgrade to 2.7.1 lost all my postUpgrading can’t delete posts because they’re in the database, not the WP files. When you say you lost your posts what do you mean? Is there anything there at all? Does the theme still show? Are the pages blank? Be more specific please.

In reply to: DISGRACEFUL Security ProblemIs there ANY way I get get this off IMMEDIATELY before all my users find out my WP installation is old?
Do you think your readers are going to throw their hands up in disgust if they know your WP version is out of date? Guess what? They couldn’t care less what version you’re using. HOWEVER — if I were a contributor I wouldn’t be happy because if I’m going to bother to write something I’d like it to be protected with the latest versions updated security.
Or perhaps you’re using WordPress MU and don’t want your users to know their blogs are at risk because you don’t want to upgrade? If you’re running MU it’s not just a choice to upgrade, it’s a responsibility as far as I’m concerned. Especially if you’re charging. I’d be PISSED if I was paying for a service with a lazy admin who doesn’t want to give me my moneys worth.
As Michael said… just upgrade!

In reply to: Permalinks – at my wits endI used to use Godaddy for hosting. The reason you get a 404 when you change permalinks is because changing permalinks changes the .htaccess file and with Godaddy, when you change the .htaccess, it can take up to an hour or so to update. Meanwhile your links come up as 404’s. Just change them to what you want and wait.
