In reply to: [Plugin: Advertising Manager] Bug in “Pause” “Active” statusquicoto:
I am not able to reproduce the error. There are two ways to set the status of the ad:
1. Click on the ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ link in the ‘Status’ column on the ad list screen.
2. Click on the ‘Active’ or ‘Paused’ link next to ‘Status:’ in the ad detail screen’.I have tested both of these places – they seem to work as advertised. Would you mind ensuring that you are on the latest version of Advertising Manager (at least 3.4.16), and if you are still having issues, please put the exact steps you are doing to create this problem?
Many thanks,

To place an ad in the sidebar, go into the WordPress Widgets area, and drag the ‘Advertisement’ widget into your sidebar. Then, inside the widget, select the ad you want to display.
Good luck,
ScottSorry about that. The bug in the widget has been fixed in 3.4.16.

In the widgets section of wordpress, drag ‘Advertisements’ over to the sidebar. Select the ad you want to display from the dropdown. That’s it!
If the ad does not show, make sure that the ad does not have limitations (e.g. that it should only display for a particular author, for example).

In reply to: [Plugin: Advertising Manager] Automatically turn off ad after x impressionsOk – I have started down this path – the latest version keeps statistics on how many impressions an ad gets. Over time, we will get this functionality.
Great suggestions. It did not make the latest release, but I already have tags working, and it will be included in the next release. I will also build functionality to automatically filter any IP address of someone who is logged in as admin.

Did you follow these steps:
1. Drag the ‘Advertisement’ widget to your sidebar
2. Select your ad from the dropdown in the widget
3. Ensure that the ad can show without restrictions (e.g. make sure that the ‘author’ and ‘cateogory’ for the ads is set to ‘all’Let me know how it goes with this – otherwise we can get into some additional details.

In reply to: [Plugin: Advertising Manager] Installed plug-in gives syntax errorChloe2:
I am releasing a BETA version of Advertising Manager displaying PHP code soon. The reason that it is beta is that by turning on and off the ‘PHP Enable’ button in the settings, the ad slightly shifts, which it should not do.
However, apart from this, it works.

In reply to: [Plugin: Advertising Manager] How to hide/disable ads in specific posts?Sierra81:
Currently, you cannot filter ads by post, but you can by category and author. Looks like you figured this out by yourself π

Yes – this is what is known as a full blown ad server π
I am very interested in what others think – I want to balance the power of this functionality with the added complexity (e.g. perhaps most people just want a widget to easily place their Adsense code)
I am happy to be convinced otherwise…

In reply to: [Plugin: Advertising Manager] Installed plug-in gives syntax errorHi Chloe,
Where did you get that banner code? It looks like a mix of HTML and PHP. I assume that this is the reason for the error.

Scottbulbius:
While I have not been able to reproduce the error you described, I have made a few changes to Advertising Manager, to make sure that the error you get shows us exactly what the issue is:
1. I removed the ‘@’ before the define line you described above. This way, if there is a problem with your system recognising ‘dirname(__FILE)’, it will stop here.
2. I only include files in plugin directory that end with ‘.php’. I see that if there are errors, and an error log is written to the file, there is an additional error that occurs.
Please upgrade to 3.4.13 (when it is released later today), and please let me know what you think.
Cheers,
Scott
