    hey there – yes, almost, I think!

    I managed it through trial and error. Not necessarily in this order, I altered the permalinks options back and forth. I was having an issue with the media library not recognising/linking so again I deleted the path, put a direct path, then went back to default.

    I’m still having issues with some of the formatting, but that’s more a case of re-establishing the image links as I go.

    Thanks for looking though!

    Hi again.

    To be honest I’ve just updated the theme today (simple catch version 1.4). To be honest, I can’t quite remember where this option would be if you’re still on an earlier version… it IS there somewhere though as I’ve changed it myself on several occasions… just don’t remember where exactly.

    Have a bit of a hunt around and see if you can find it. It’s getting late here now and I have my own kids to sort out (7pm in Scotland!). I’ll check in later to see if you’ve sussed it.

    In the mean time, watch that tutorial video, it helps (ignore all the gumpf about hosting at the beginning), and do a search on the forums for ‘simple+catch+excerpt’

    go to Appearance – Theme Settings – Excerpt/More Tag Settings – change the excerpt length to something very big (20000 words). Click save

    Job (probably) done.

    Also I strongly advise you to view their youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oiov0L4blIw

    … for no reason other than it clearly explains how you use the featured slider (it’s not broken, you just need to specify which images should appear, and as a photographer I can see it working really well for you – I’m a designer who works with illustrators and photographers on a daily basis by the way) and gives you a wealth of info on the various bits and pieces of the theme that you may not know about but could be very useful.

    If this doesn’t work let me know as there’s a default setting in wordpress and this may be overriding it, in which case you may need to alter some code.

    It’s not complicated. At all. The problem here is the question I asked the Simple Catch team isn’t the same problem you are having… at all!

    Please read my first entry – I use the featured slider and I want the image on the featured slider to have the title of the entry it relates to, but not the description – this appears immediately underneath the featured slider box within the grey area of the page. That was the whole question – the code the Simple Catch people have given is specifically for this (and nothing else). If you don’t use the featured slider it does not relate to your problem – so every time you’ve been changing this code it probably has been working, but seeing as you don’t use featured slider images, it doesn’t relate to what you’re doing and won’t appear.

    So, if you would like my help, explain to me what is wrong – is it the excerpt text for each blog entry that you want to remove so you just have:

    Righto,

    Had a look at your site and there aren’t any featured sliders – am assuming that you’ve taken them off temporarily?

    Bear in mind that I have nothing to do with the creators of the template but I’m happy to help you and the solution I have is giving you the entire code I have for the simplecatch_function.php file (I may as well just put it up in dropbox for you to pick up), but before I do that put at least one or two images up as featured sliders so I can see what’s what. Oh, and of course do a total backup before you use this file just in case!

    As for the support. I know it’s frustrating babyslime, but I have to say that looking at this post and many many others that the creators of this particular template seem to be be second to none in term of support considering it’s free! They even have a very very good youtube hour long tutorial that’s worth looking at. We’re both using a template for a cms – wordpress isn’t a bespoke system so you do have to accept that there are ‘limitations’ that you need to accept -for me it’s the fact that the featured slider only works on the front page – would really like one for each category, but hey, it’s free and they’ve already mentioned they’re working on it.

    I’m just about ready to make my site live and will post up a message when I do just to prove that the fix mentioned above does indeed work!

    All the best – keep cool, it will be sorted,

    You need to save the file as you are doing… but at this stage nothing will happen, all will look the same (just did a test on my version to see if this was correct).

    You then need to complete Rabin’s instructions by doing this

    ‘Appearance->featured slider->Add slider option and click save to refresh the cache.’ – even though you are not making any changes here, pressing save makes the difference.

    Other than that the only thing I can see that could be an issue is that you need to select all of Rabin’s code above. On my screen the code scrolls beyond the grey box.

    Hope that helps!

    Ah yes, but can you see the change log before you choose to update? I may be just not looking in the right place.

    I’m doing this site for myself, so quite happy to update each time a new release is out, but if I use the same theme (and change the design) for a client then I’d be more cautious about updating each time, especially if I’m changing content I’d need to alter each time.

    Thread Starter suns

    (@suns)

    I’ll second that. There’s just been another update to the theme – I did the update and redid the change and it worked again.

    As an aside to the simple catch team – what would be really good would be if you showed release notes with each update so we knew what changes had been made and whether it was worth updating.

    Thanks though – really like the theme!

    Hi babyslime,

    I’m using the most up-to-date version of SC and followed Rabin’s instructions verbatim and didn’t have any issues. As with any and every change to code it’s always good to make a full copy of the file you’re changing. Give it another go perhaps?

    Thread Starter suns

    (@suns)

    Rabin, thank you so much. I understand that any updates would override the content, but I will make a note and keep exchanging the code (for as long as it works).

    Another question for you – is it possible to have multiple featured sliders – eg. one for each category? I’m guessing not, but would it be possible for the featured image to appear not where it currently does (in a box at the side of the excerpt text) but instead in a placeholder where the homepage featured slider resides?

    Many thanks again Rabin,

    Suns

    (@suns)

    That’s correct yorgo… however, I would recommend that don’t do what I first did and place your image within the simple-catch folder… i.e.:

    background:url(/wp-content/themes/simple-catch/images/newheaderimage.jpg) left bottom repeat-x;

    the reason being that as soon as you update to any never versions of the simple catch template your images will be overwritten/removed too if they are stored in that folder.

    Instead, put them in your uploads folder (I place them in a subfolder called ‘coreimages’ so they don’t get mixed up with post/page images)

    if you place something like the following into your design settings-css code it should work… does with me anyway.

    #header {
    background:url(/wp-content/uploads/coreimages/header-bg4.jpg) left bottom repeat-x;
    }

    Andrew, Sir, you are a star!

    Thank you so much for helping me with this – it works perfectly… or will do when I’ve edited the BG image a bit!

    Thank you so much once again,

    should also mention that the file I want for the background is called ‘swoop.jpg’
