YES, using Fantastico, I completely removed the WP install, then did a fresh new install for WP 2.1 and also WP 2.11 (I have no files, special plugins, etc. so I can do that)
I am just doing the standard Fantastico install
most admin panel functions seem to work (I haven’t tried them all)
I constantly get the “are you sure you want to navigate away from this page” warning when I want to go anywhere which seems stange (not to mention irritating)
BUT even more importantly, I cannot create any new categories (!!!)
have noticed quite a few other people cannot create categories (and get the “are you sure…” warning in WP 2.X), but so far no one has a fix, other than possibly to install some 3rd party “category manager” plugin which “somehow just fixes it”, but that is hardly a proper fix
any help hugely appreciated

have tried everything, fresh complete uninstall & install of both WP 2.1 and WP 2.11 using Fantastico (at Lunarpages hosting)
no matter what I try, when I enter info for new category (name etc.), then press the submit button – NOTHING happens
no new category, no error message, button just flickers a tiny bit
using WinXP, MSIE6 or FireFox, logged in as Administrator
BTW, the old version WP 2.0 worked for me fine when I ran a trial (but I never had chance to use it much)
HELP please someone! — I’m being forced to pick another blogging system…

BUT, I also have the problem of not being able to create any new categories (an even bigger problem)!!!
I think these 2 might be related, as I’ve seen them mentioned together before.
I’m not doing an upgrade, but rather a complete NEW INSTALL of WP 2.1 via Fantastico (Lunarpages hosting). Using Win XP-SP2, MSIE 6 or FireFox. Have tried repeated deletes & full fresh installs, but always the same –> I can’t create any categories, and, get the “Are you sure you want… etc.” pop-up warning.
Still *desperately* looking for a fix… Thanks!

I also noticed that when I navigate between items in the administration panel, I constantly get a warning “are you sure you want to navigate away from this page – OK?” (something like that)
seems useless and is very irritating
……..
still hoping for a fix someone? otherwise, it looks like WP 2.1 just doesn’t work, and sadly I will have to pursue other blogging software

– I’m using Win XP, SP2
– have tried using both MSIE 6 and Firefox
– I’m logged in as the administrator, and have also tried logging in as an editor
– have alternatively tried to create a new category from the “make a new post” screenin each case, I have the same problem > I simply can’t create any new categories, no matter what
HELP! my launch onto WordPress has been a disaster so far
PS: I ran an earlier version of WP just 2 months ago to test it out (using exact same method via Fantastico) and it worked just fine

Feb-11-2007 I just did fresh install of WP 2.1 (via Fantastico at Lunarpages hosting). Install went well and quickly. Was able to access admin panel and make a few test changes, BUT cannot create a new category. When I try to to so by entering category name, etc. and then hitting submit, NOTHING happens (no error, no new category). Checking the published site confirms no new category created.
I tried full WP delete and another fresh install, but exact same problem.
Installing a plugin for this as suggested above seems crazy! This is a basic WP function.
Anyone have an explanation or fix?
