Turns out this issue seems to be caused by the Orbit Fox plugin that is an add-on to Elementor and not Elementor itself.

Any progress with this? I’m looking for a simple solution to be able to have multiple images associated with each event as well.
I want a user to be able to select multiple images at the time they create a listing using a front end creat listing form.

Ok, since this is apparently so difficult, does anyone know of an Image/Gallery plugin that will allow a front end form for uploading images that can be combined with the events listing form and then linked to each event as it is displayed?
