I had the same problem. Turns out it was a problem with the plugin “jQuery Updater”. Once I disabled it then it worked again.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Cannot activate pluginThanks, I contacted the Hosting site and they found that the plugin “NextCellent Gallery” was causing issues with other plugins that caused Jetpack along with other plugins to keep from being activated. Hope this helps!

Also jQuery Updater does the same thing if that helps any. I’m not sure what the issue is, it might by theme or server related.
