As an update to this post.
I contacted my host. They ended up having to make some settings changes to my Fast CGI — they upped the amount of memory. Since then, all is well!
It looks like you are using a theme that has embedded links in the footer, and when you tried to take out the links, the theme has broke. There is usually code in the header that checks if the links are active in footer or not.
Edit to create new thread, because it appears the issue is not exactly the same.
