In reply to: PermissionsHave you insured that the entire path of directories enables you to access and write to /uploads? As far as I know, you must go up the levels (diretcory hierarchy), insuring that even your WordPress directory is writable (not /admin!). Hope it helps and merry Xmas!

In reply to: What’s the best structure for my website? If you have many databases available with your host, you can also consider multiple instllations on different subsites. WordPress MU is best for foreign users who sign up and manage their blogs independently.
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Should I install on a sub-domain name?* WordPress has been PR9 for months now.
* Subsites are good for statistics and isolation e.g. multiple Webmasters and delegation of responsibilities. Search engines do not mind the difference.
* Subsites may be easier to manage, e.g. migrate when fragmenting a site to separate domains.

In reply to: wp-db.php … (upgradine errors)Where is your WordPress installation located? Also, when uploading the new version, did you overwrite the old files? Your FTP client might be leaving some old files unchanged, as they are not overwritten properly. In any case, see the upgrade instructions for more details:

In reply to: Teething troubles – Admin issuesYou said: “Sometime it will not load (in firefox) and at other times the loads will be very slow.”
Is it possible that the Web server is slow or unreliable? if the appearance of pages is sporadic and sometimes slow, it would indicate that the performance is poor. If there are pages that can *never* be loaded, this indicates a problem with WordPress.
Which theme/s have you installed? Have you modified the dashboard (admin panel) by any chance? There are themes for the dashboard too and some may be broken or lacking. The ones I have seen cause some issues.

In reply to: Where is the HTML tags toolbar.Have you modified any files in your WordPress installation by any chance? I suspect there might be a dashboard option somewhere, which brings it back to life. Help? anybody? (*bump*)

In reply to: Publish To DomainI don’t mean to advocate anything else, but if the OP cannot afford or does not wish to move to a different host, other software exists which uses flat text files to store data.
Still, it is not comparable with WordPress. But not all hope is lost…
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: Elsewhere plugin ?David, we suggested that the ‘old style’ search is returned. Yahoo-powered search gives a mish-mash of pages with low relevance, but its precedence has perhaps something to do with server load too.
Still, better search carefully to avoid duplicates and unneeded effort. Good luck and happy holidays to all.

In reply to: Comments stop working when permalinks are usedI have just bound a comment to the SSL item (“Be aware that SSL slows crawling down.”). It is queued for moderation it seems. It is also displayed to me due to the cookie, so we know this works. When you enable permalinks, you say this will break. I reread your description yet again, but can’t help much further. Here is a suggestion:
Enable permalinks and direct users to the comment pages without the permanlink structure. This should look like e.g. index.php?p=3. Put a link at this page for people to link to perhaps? This would link to duplication though, so as I think about it again, better forget about it…
Sorry I could not help much further. Hopefully someone else can. Merry Xmas (or ‘other’).

In reply to: Fundamental WordPress Theme ReleasedHi KaushalSheth, I like your theme, but without *any* criticism, nothing will ever change and the messages from us would be pointless. *smile*
Allow me to elaborate. I actually think I could as easily retract my suggestion. What I meant to say is that the buttons along the top are not perfectly consistent. They have a certain ‘fold’ at the top-right corner, which is nice. The background colour of that ‘fold’ is grey for the feeds, but not for the other menu items. This looks fine, but is still subjective.

In reply to: IE problemmoshu, you’re right in this case. I didn’t intend for it to be BS though. No hard feelings, I hope. *smile*
holyroller, glad you got this sorted. I am very new to this forum, so I failed to spot a common issue. All the best.

In reply to: Comments stop working when permalinks are usedYour server does not respond at the moment. Have you switched off your computer?
Has anybody else got an idea what may be causing it? In a nutshell, it’s a comment-permalink incompatibility, it seems (Windows, localhost)…

Seems fine to me on its own, but your page will not validate. I can tell from the above. Have you tried making it valid XHTML? If not, you are bound to fragility, especially with IE. I have has similar problems in the past.

It doesn't look like you've installed WP yet. Try running install.php.
Bad news? Or are you cooking something?
