In reply to: Twenty Twelve: change font size for section of page contentHa – worked it out. For benefit of others, just place the text you want to change in spans, as follows:
<span style=”color: #ff0000; font-size: 0.9rem;”>SELECTED TEXT GOES HERE</span>
Cheers!
RossThank you, WPyogi! I stared at the code I’d added to the stylesheet for an hour, and didn’t notice that. DUH! I must have deleted the bracket accidentally and unwittingly when trying out various new lines of CSS below it. All working properly again now!
I’m not sure if I should post this separately, and will of course defer to whatever the etiquette is, but I do have another problem similar to those you and Andrew have so kindly helped me with above.
I want to hide the entry-titles on all pages, but not on the static home page. Is this best done with CSS in the stylesheet, or do you think I should be looking at a page.php mod (or whatever…very much feeling my way with this stuff, in case it’s not already bleeding obvious)?
If CSS, any recommendations gratefully lapped up.
Whatever, I want to be able to retain the function of having page titles still appear in the horizontal nav menu as they do now, and still be there for SEO purposes – just not visible on the pages themselves (other than the static home page).
Do you WP wizzes think I should investigate creating a customised page template rather then putting more ‘display: none;’ items in the stylesheet (which I’ve heard is not a good idea…I don’t understand why, though)?
Cheers!
RossARRRGGHHH! The site title and description is back on all pages! I haven’t made any changes to the CSS recommended above by Andrew, which was working perfectly.
I added some content to a draft page and published the page – that is the only change I’ve made. WHY would that stop the CSS above from working? WHY oh WHY?
Pleeease help, someone!!
Cheers
RossPerfect, Andrew! Thanks for your elegant and concise solution.
Just one point of clarification, if that’s OK. Your CSS works brilliantly as is, but just wondering if I was supposed to put the home page id or URL between the asterisks in this line:
/* Assuming this is your home page */Big cheers!

In reply to: Twenty Twelve: how to change background on a per/page basisHA! That did it! Thanks so much, Andrew!
Would you mind explaining briefly why that worked, and why you thought to change from background-image, pls?
So relieved – was just about to quit for the day after hours wrangling with this. Very grateful to you.

In reply to: Twenty Twelve: how to change background on a per/page basisI have now – thanks, Andrew.
Whatever I try, the static home page image overrides the background image I try to put in for the new page. I can get a customised background colour to load when I revert to WPYogi’s CSS recommendation, but not a customised background image.
It’s got me beat.

In reply to: Twenty Twelve: how to change background on a per/page basisThanks, Andrew, but as per my initial post I’m aware of that plugin. I’d rather learn how to do this using CSS, and am SOOO close. Once I’ve got the CSS right, I will know what to do from now on, and can do the same for all other pages without a plugin.

In reply to: Twenty Twelve: how to change background on a per/page basisWPyogi, are you still there? I celebrated so joyously prematurely!
I want to change the background IMAGE on a per page basis, not the colour. Now I’m stuck again, because whatever image I put in is overridden by the background image of the static home page.
I know there must be some simple solution, but I can’t find it! If you could possibly pop back with another bit o sage advice, would be fabbo.
Cheers

In reply to: Twenty Twelve: how to change background on a per/page basisYou did it! It works! Thank you thank you thank you, WPyogi!
I had actually tried that line you added, but without the ‘!important’, which makes all the difference. Not only have you given me the solution I’ve been searching for high and low for days, but you have also explained why it works (custom background image being loaded after the custom CSS).
Indebted.
Cheers!

In reply to: Twenty Twelve: how to change background on a per/page basisNot possible to have different backgrounds for different pages, folks? I’d have thought it would have been, but I can find absolutely NOTHING on this (that works) on the web, and from the absence of replies here, seems that’s just how it is.
If anyone has any clue on this, would be most grateful for some pointers. It’s so easy to change backgrounds per page on web design software like clunky old FrontPage, I thought it would be relatively easy to do in WordPress…

In reply to: Multiple Feedburner feeds for same WP blogSorry, Andrew – neglected to get back and thank you for your input. I don’t know how to tell which feed is which, but your suggestion could well be spot on. Do you happen to know how I can ascertain which feed is which, pls?
Cheers

In reply to: Multiple Feedburner feeds for same WP blogThanks, Andrew (nothing like that morning coffee, I agree!).
Good suggestion re advising readers of change in feed subscriptions. If I can’t find a way to migrate the Feedburner feeds over automatically, I’ll go your way.
I still don’t understand why there are 3 separate feeds for my blog shown in Feedburner, though. I’d have thought feeds connected to an old URL would just dry up…why would subscribers be still there?
I can see the number of subscribers for each feed, but no other details like which are active and which obsolete. Anyway…
Cheers
