In reply to: WORDPRESS 2.3.3 IS AVAILABLE!!!!whooami,
The Codex upgrade instructions (http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress) state the following: Copy the new files to your server, overwriting old files. You may use FTP or shell commands to do so.
I have always carefully followed the Codex instructions. I can see nothing on the page I provided the link to above that instructs us to delete files, as you claim.
Not saying it’s not there somewhere, but I can’t see it. Are you sure you’ve got this right? I overwrote as per the Codex instructions when doing my previous upgrade from 2.1 to 2.3.2 and had no issues.
Whatever, I’ll try downloading those 5 files and installing them and see what happens.

In reply to: WORDPRESS 2.3.3 IS AVAILABLE!!!!Wonder if anyone can give me some advice on the following.
I have twice now done a full upgrade from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 (I need the practice and am a masochist…but to be honest, I only just came across this thread and the fact that only 5 files have been changed from 2.3.2).
On both occasions, I have gone to the upgrade page to be told that I am already upgraded and running the latest version of WP. Then I check on my Dashboard page, and 2.3.2 still appears as my version, AND at the top of the page is the notice telling me about 2.3.3 and urging me to upgrade! What the…?
Both times, I DEFINITELY downloaded the current 2.3.2 upgrade (I have checked that!).
I’ll try uploading just those 5 changed files, but before I do, could someone suggest an explanation for what is going on here pls?
Also, re the 5 changed files: do I simply upload them to my WP general folder via FTP, or do I have to specifically overwrite previous files? Probably a duh-brain question, but I am not very tech-savvy.
Cheers

In reply to: Can’t see plugin after uploading files to wp-content/pluginsThanks guys, but I can’t work out how to “check the file permissions”. What should I be looking at please – ie: where do I find the file permissions to check them??
Needless to say, although I am not a beginner with software generally, when it comes to WP I am an incompetent klutz. PLs make your advice SIMPLE and assume no knowledge on my part.
Cheers
NB: I read the Codex link, but as usual, couldn’t understand it.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Getting rid of Comments section on Pages other than home pageYep, thanks moshu, but I don’t know how to create different pages templates, one with comments and the other without. I guess that’s why I was looking for a simple solution.
I’m certainly willing to try to nut it out, but I don’t even know where to start! (NB: Zero CSS, HTML or PHP knowledge…makes life difficult).

In reply to: Getting rid of Comments section on Pages other than home pageTHANKS, adamrbrown – that’s all there was to it! DUH on my part.
One more question, though. Now that I have unchecked “allow comments”, I get a “Comments are closed” sentence at the bottom of the page. I can live with this, but is there a way to get rid of it, pls?
