In reply to: "Exlcude" Plugins cause posts to display in wrong orderI’ve had the issue of wrong ordering come up probably a dozen times over the hundreds of users. I have personally not been able to reproduce the issue in any environment available to me. One poster a few months ago was able to dig into his own server configurations. He is is findings:
“Basically we ran MySQL version 5.0.51a which is known for having a bug with ORDER BY and GROUP BY. I’ve just upgraded to MySQL 5.1, and the order of posts is now correct while running SimplyExclude.”
As the author of the Simply Exclude plugin I can tell you the plugin doesn’t apply any ordering logic nor does it directly build queries. Well it does for Pages which is very old code. But for Posts Categories, Post Tags, etc., all the plugin does is apply filters to the query.
Supposed you have 20 post categories and two of these categories you want to hide from the home post listing. The excluded categories has Id 26, 99. To exclude that category from your home post listing you simply use the following code.
function myHomePostsFilter($query)
{
if ($query->is_home)
{
// See Codes for wp_query http://codex.wordpress.org/Class_Reference/WP_Query
$query->set(‘category__not_in’,array(26,99));
}
return $query;
}
add_filter(‘pre_get_posts’,’myHomePostsFilter’);Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Simply Exclude] [Plugin: Simply Exclude] Conflict with e-commerce-plugin.Yeah the WP eCommerce plugin does things wrong in my opinion. Causes conflicts with many other plugins not just SE.

In reply to: [Simply Exclude] Search function doesn't work 3.1 – 3.2HeliR, not sure if your comment was implied to relate to the Simply Exclude plugin. It does not alter, write to or otherwise setup permalink changes.
One suggestion for you is to move the like ‘DirectoryIndex index.php’ above the ‘# BEBIG WordPress’ section.

In reply to: [Simply Exclude] Search function doesn't work 3.1 – 3.2Not sure what that snippet has to do with search. Just to be clear that snippet is somewhat the core functionality of the Simply Exclude plugin. There are 4 available ‘actions’, is_home, is_search, is_archive and is_feed. The SE plugin simply sets a filter to run on the ‘pre_get_posts’ filtering for these included/excluded categories, tags, authors. The bulk of the code for the plugin is to manage the admin UI.
Pages are handled differently in WordPress. you best option for page search filtering is Search Everything.
I really have no idea why your setup is causing issues with the plugin. There are literally thousands of other users who love the plugin and have not reported issues. Maybe there is a conflict with some of the other used plugins. I’m not sure. And I’m still not sure on the fatal error you reported. Again, this is not something I can investigate since every user’s website is unique.
As for the 404s this is not really delicate in that it uses standard WordPress core functionality to register the custom taxonomy for the tags.
At this point if you are having such issues then please feel free to try a different solution.
You are correct. The include statement and call are used to convert from the older style (pre-Custom Taxonomy) logic used in version 1.0 of Media-Tags.
I’m not seeing how this include and function call will cause a fatal error. No less an error being reported in another plugin file. Strange setup on your end?
Thanks for the comment. Fatal Error? Mind pasting into this thread the exact message from the PHP Fatal Error? If it is not displaying then you should open your site’s wp-config.php file and change define(‘WP_DEBUG’, false); to define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true); then retry.
Known conflicts? Yes and No. Really depends on which other plugins you have loaded. You mentioned you were able to activate on your development site. Is the dev and Fatal Errors sites EXACTLY the same as far as plugin, theme, configurations?
Give me more information and I can help narrow down the issue.
Thanks.

In reply to: [Media Tags] Doesn't integrate with latest release of WPThanks for helping work through all this. Yeah, agreed it sounds like the upgrade is the culprit. I will look into that.

In reply to: [Media Tags] Doesn't integrate with latest release of WPHmm. Sounds like there is something up with your user authority or roles or something. So you are not seeing the Media-Tags menu at all. Try installing a Roles plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=Roles&sort=
I like to use the Role Manager plugin http://www.im-web-gefunden.de/wordpress-plugins/role-manager/ or the Members plugin from Justin Tadlock. http://justintadlock.com/archives/2009/09/17/members-wordpress-plugin
The Media-Tags plugin sets up some user role objects. These objects are prefixed with ‘Meditags ‘ Here a screenshot of the Admin role capabilities http://screencast.com/t/3QOA97aZ
Keep me posted. I would like to solve this. Also if possible I’d like to request a complete archive of the site since it is under dev. That way I can run on my local development server to try and figure out the issue. Which bring up a question. You mentioned the real hosting is Linux. Are you seeing the same problem there?

In reply to: [Media Tags] Doesn't integrate with latest release of WPMedia-Tags have been tested with WordPress 3.2.1 and does in fact work.
Questions for you to answer:
1. What other plugins are you running. There are for some reason other plugins that are also creating menus called ‘Media-Tags’ under the Library section.
2. What hosting are you using? Windows? WordPress standard or WordPress Multisite?
3. What theme?
4. Are you accessing the wp-admin will full admin access? Since version 3.0 of Media-Tags it support roles-based access. By default only full admin users have access to the Media-Tags menu panel. But full admin user can grant access to non-admin users via the Media-Tags menu.

In reply to: [Media Tags] [Plugin: Media Tags] Fix Role Management for large blogsReally! you have 45,000 active users in your system. Your better option would be to user a role manager like http://www.im-web-gefunden.de/wordpress-plugins/role-manager/ or http://justintadlock.com/archives/2009/09/17/members-wordpress-plugin
These plugins will let you assign ability by role. The Media-Tags ‘ability’ objects should be visible.
I’ll look at the Media-Tags code. I had not anticipated that many users. I do know I’m just calling the built in WordPress user functions to build the initial listing. Then looping through to build the sub-listing.
Sorry for the delay. I had merge a bunch of changes into a new version. Then started working on the bulk option via upload panel. Then stopped to work on some client code. When I finally made it back to the Media-Tags code I decided to rip out all the bulk upload logic for now so that I can get all the bug fixes into a version that can be pushed to wordpress.org for users screaming for fixes. Did that last week. So now back to adding the bulk upload tagging logic. Hope to have something beta this coming week.

In reply to: [Media Tags] Clash with WordTube?Seems this is a known/reported issue.
http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/17657I’m considering updating my plugin’s short code from using ‘media-tags’ to just ‘media tags’.

In reply to: [Media Tags] Clash with WordTube?Just downloaded and install wordTube on my local development system. Which is also running the latest version of WordPress and Media-Tags.
From the wordTube plugin code I can see where it registers a shortcode ‘media’ lib/shortcodes.php line 28.
And from my Media-Tags plugin I register the shortcode ‘media-tags’.
It appears WordPress does not distinguish between ‘media’ and ‘media-tags’ in the way it handles the short code processing.
locksn and alx359. I’m actually spent the last 2 full days adding the Media-Tags bulk admin interface to the file upload Media Library panel. Seems to work like the other bulk admin. Need to finish up some code for the popup version which is slightly different.
Any volunteers on beta testing this sometime early next week?
