clubdesign, appears that is a bad link. Started browsing the WordPress plugins and didn’t find it. Can you provide more information on the issue.

All, just pushed out some immediate changes to Media-Tags 3.1 this afternoon. This should take care of the immediate need for the bulk admin option on the Media section. Still have some ‘funky’ stuff on the new media popup used on the Posts/Pages. Will be posting another update today which will remove the old logic to filter by Media=Tags on the popup as it is broken and will just confuse people.

Thanks all for your patience. And thanks for using my little plugin.

Ray111, Apologies for the delay in my post. The plugin does work. Just not with all theme. Some theme (including Canvas) re-query the content. Simply-Exclude works only on the main WP query when the page first loads. If the theme re-queries the content SE cannot intercept this.

clubdesign, Thanks for the suggestion. I just released Media-Tags 3.1 to take care of some issues with the new WordPress 3.5 but wanted to thank you for providing the details. I will review this for the next release hopefully next week.

3r1c, Thanks for the bug report. I’ll be working on updating Media-Tags to support some changes coming in WordPress 3.5. So will look into this issue. Thanks.

Tevya, I’ve been waiting for some method provided by WordPress to allow this. But unfortunately that media upload screen is unavailable to Media-Tags or other hooks. Sure I would love to have some pre-form where you can select the tags then upload the images. The automatically the uploaded images would be tagged. But just not possible. Sorry.

lonchbox, I’m not really sure this is possible. Once the image is inserted into the content there are no filters available that Media-Tags can act on. Meaning when you insert the image you already have the formatted content. If the tags for that image were to change the inserted HTML would need to be manually updated as Media-Tags cannot do this dynamically in the post content.

On the get_attachments_by_media_tags() function call there are two parameters supported ‘offset’ and ‘numberposts’. Basically any parameter you can pass into get_posts http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/get_posts you can pass into that function.

This means prior to calling the get_attachments_by_media_tags function you need to figure out what page the user is on. Media-Tags does not do that for you. Generally the ‘offset’ value is the number of items per page (numberposts) X page number.

    Hope this helps.

    drebabels,

Sorry for my late reply. Have been traveling.

I see where you are coming from, and if I understand you correctly what you are doing is allowing people to specify the retrieval of all attachments with a specific tag that is also attached to a specific post_type (i.e. ‘post’ or ‘page’ or ‘custom post type’). But I wonder if people have actually needed that sort of specificity?

No, you are not understanding. What Media-Tags does is allow the user to tag the media items. Media items are always of post type ‘attachment’. This is per WordPress core functionality. And post_type ‘attachment’ items are always associated with a parent post type like Post, Page, custom post type. So when someone uses the Media-Tags template functions to query all the attachments tagged a certain way it is the same as you showing all Posts in a specific tag. But this is specific to the attachment post type.

See WordPress treats attachments different than Post, Page or some custom post type. If you were to register a new taxonomy ‘Events’ and associate it with Posts you would see the new menu item show under the Posts menu section.

But for attachments this does not function the same. If you register a taxonomy and associate it with the ‘attachment’ post type you will not see a new menu under the Media section. And what you will see on the Media item form is a simple input field where you can enter something.

So what Media-Tags does is provide an interface where the user can tag Media items (post_type = attachment) is a familiar manor. Again this is specific to the attachment post_type.

From what I see you writing you want to associate Media-tags with all post types Posts, Page, whatever, You wouldn’t do this with the post tag or category taxonomies.

    Perfect. Thanks!

I have to disagree how you are using my plugin. The intention of the plugin was to associate tags to the post type ‘attachment’. All media, image, documents, pdf, mo3, movies are stored into WordPress with post_type ‘attachment’. The plugin was NOT intended to have media-tag associated with other post types.

Remember in WordPress there is a specific parent-child relationship between the attachment and parent. The parent can be any post type: post, page, or some custom post type. When you use the media-tag template functions they are intended to work with attachments only.

discojing, I’m not sure I have any advice. I do know my plugin, Simply-Exclude should properly handle the pagination. The plugin does basically what you are doing with the ‘pre_get_posts’ filter in your functions file. It excludes the category from the query.

Sounds like your move might be something of the culprit.

jonasiano, probably your first lesson is to not hijack some else’s question. This gets confusing because your needs and the original poster’s needs are quite different. It is always bets to start a new thread.

As to your question you might be confused on how Media-Tags works. The Media-Tags plugin simply applied tagging ability to your image. This has little to do with the Posts that an image/document/media would be associated with.

For example if you want to show a list of all images tagged as ‘Vacation’ in a widget of a custom Page template there are some template functions available for Media-Tags that will help.
