In reply to: Requesting feedback: High school club website, WP backendThanks for the first comment. 🙂
Heh. What can I say? To each his/her own, I suppose.
It’s not all Flash – I was asked to pursue that initially but declined to build it. I believe Flash, used sparingly and to compliment the page, can be effective. In terms of compatibility, Flash has 98.3% market penetration (90% with v7,) so it’s not a major issue.
Also, just to keep in mind, the target audience are teenagers in high school. They like dynamic content and moving elements. I happen to know a few things regarding Flash, so that’s how I went about things.
I appreciate your concern, but if you could just ignore the Flash for a minute, could you criticize the rest of the site? I’d appreciate it. 🙂

In reply to: Sarcasm in a Bottle: Is It Too Colorful?Completely my opinion. Don’t put too much in it. 🙂
Personally, I think it could fly with some minor tweaks. My main issue is that the page lacks any contrast, particularly with where the body text/entries are. While I admire your use of color, it makes it difficult for readers to view your articles.
Suggestions:
– I’m not a big fan of the background tiles; it’s too distracting. Perhaps softer colors, a simpler design, or simply lowering its opacity could help.
– The color of pink box where the last entry doesn’t seem to work, IMO. Perhaps a lighter shade? If all else fails, there’s always white.
– Again, contrast. Play around a bit with the text colors. You might find something that works for you.I think the overall design is pretty good, however. Nice job.

In reply to: Going from Dreamhost to 1and1 – multiple problemsAnother problem that I just noticed: Author Icons aren’t present as well.
I’m talking to someone that’s willing to host in the meantime, but I want to get it to its permanent home ASAP. (Preferably bypassing him; one server move seems troublesome enough.)
Anyone have ideas as to why the Author Images plug-in isn’t working?

In reply to: Going from Dreamhost to 1and1 – multiple problemsTo put it simply, I can’t afford to maintain Dreamhost since I was paying the promotional price the first year. (I asked if they minded extending it – the promotional price was valid up to last month and all I host are high school/community pages, but they refused.)
My 1and1 account isn’t really as ideal, but it’s what I have to work with for the time being. I’m looking into alternatives if they’re available, but the truth is I don’t really have a lot of money at the moment… not enough to even get myself a Flickr Pro account.
Anyway, I’ll look into the MySQL problem and report back soon. If all goes well and the database works, I’ll wipe the first install, copy everything back again, and see how it goes from there. Thanks jalenack!

In reply to: Going from Dreamhost to 1and1 – multiple problemsMoshu: Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, copying and pasting the code had the same problem.

In reply to: how do you add wp into an existing website? That guide looks pretty good, actually. Nice link, moshu. What exactly are you looking to do? I’m no master of WP myself, but I don’t mind trying to help your way around.
(Didn’t think I’d come across you here. Feel free to contact me at anytime if you need help. 🙂

In reply to: gZip versus WP-Cache 2.0Ming and david, thanks a lot for your replies. I’ve decided to stick with GZip for the meantime and attempt WP-Cache later on, as those that I have talked to have said the time to load is acceptable. It’ll be on my things to do, alongside getting the page to validate. 🙂
Thanks again!
