  • I had the same problem and went in loops, re-installing everything. This was the solution someone finaly gave me. Try putting

    /index.php?p=%post_id%

for you permalink structure. This worked for me for the most part but I’m still have problems with my calendar which I still is broken. I wish I understood what was going on better.

GREAT. Thanks very, very much! Finally I’m getting somewhere! The ‘/index.php?p=%post_id%’ worked, mostly. Most of the links are working but the calendar still doesn’t work when I click on the previous month. What I meant about the themes and links was that I tried it first with the default theme and had the same results. After that I changed the theme and just messed mainly with css. The links that were not working were the comments, the links to each posting (the title of the posting), and the calendar (it doesn’t go to previous month when clicked on, or to the date when clicked on). Now, everything seems to be working except the calendar.

I’ll tell my friends about the restaurant. Thanks. And sorry for the multiple threads.

No, I called and my service provider said that mod_rewrites was enabled. I don’t understand this permalinks thing fully, do I have to use permalinks? It was suggested I add a permalink structure and that didn’t work, tried without anything for the structure, also didn’t work. This has turned into a hell of a time waster and I guess it just won’t work with this service provider. I don’t even feel like trying another blog software at this point either. I think I’ll leave blogs alone for a while and just go with e-mail and websites.

Thanks for the comments. The problem is that I’m doing this blog for someone else and right now I don’t feel like asking them to switch providers. I already have delayed the delivery of what I thought would be a simple blog. Have you tried any other blog software? I reallly don’t know what else to do. I changed permissioins, URLs to the blog, added a .htaccess, re-installed everything from scratch and I’m getting fried. I’m sort of surprised that such a basic thing should be such a hassel. The blog is up and postings can be made but none of the links work, like to comments, calendar, the specific entries. So it is sort of useless if there is no way to navigate around.

The .htaccess is in the blog folder. I tried adding /index.php/ at the beginning of the permalink structure. Now I get “No input file specified.” when I try to go to the links. Do I really need permalinks? If I don’t have them is there any way to make it work? Is there any idea if this is a bug or what might be happening? Any other ideas? I don’t understand but I guess there’s no way to make my blog work. Maybe when WP is updated I can try again. Anyway, thanks for all the help.

OK, I added the .htaccess and modified the permalinks structure (to this /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/). Now all the links go to the URL from this structure but there is nothing there, I get:

    “Not Found
The requested URL /blog/2005/07/07/tester/ was not found on this server.”

Is there something else I need to do?

    thanks.

I talked again to my service provider and they say the mod_rewrite is enabled. do I still need to create a .htaccess file? If so how do I do that?

I cannot find the .htaccess file. Could this be the problem? It says to change permissions on this file but it’s not there. How do know if mod_rewrite is enabled?

    thanks

OK, I read about permalinks. I don’t really need permalinks. It seems like they are not used by default. Correct? Do I still need to enable mod_rewrite? All I want is a very simple blog, just postings and comments, very basic.

OK, one final call for help. I’ve talked to my service provider dozens of times, I’ve re-installed WP completely from scratch 3 times, I’ve tried changing the URI for the Blog address. Is there anything I can do to have a working blog with links that work? Does anyone know if MovableType or some other blog software works any better or easier? Any help? Please.

I’m new to this and I don’t think I’m using permalinks and I don’t know if mod_rewrite is enabled or how to enable it. Is this something that can easily be done or do I have to do some reading? This is getting terribly frustrating.

    thanks,

OK, this almost works. It adds the “index.php” but with a “/” after it so I get “No input file specified.” error. If I take out the “/” after “index.php” then I go to the right place. What now? Any ideas? I would really like to have a working blog soon.

    Thanks very much.

I’m not sure, how do I know if it has a proper comments template? The theme is called “simple-green” and it is a simple theme and it does have a comments.php file. Is there something I need to edit in that?

    thanks.
