In reply to: Attachment Errors in Google Webmaster ToolsThanks for your help… man, this thing is still killing me. There’s obviously something causing it (a script, plugin, i don’t know).
Anyway, it’s incredibly hard to diagnose because it takes days of waiting before these things pop up again. I can’t completely disable Yoast for that kind of time. But I’ve slowly been disabling bits and pieces… thought I was in the clear and this morning *bam* 900+ errors on attachments just popped up again.
Is there any way to just GET RID OF the entire “attachement” page thing? WHy in the world would anyone want a page on their site devoted to every single image they’ve ever uploaded? It seems like a ridiculous waste of time to me.
Me too! It doesn’t seem very severe, I only get one instance of this, but it’s on all my pages. Exactly the same 404 as reported by Jeremey and mfacer.
Any evidence that this is caused by the sheer volume of tags? Does Yost shut if down once you have more than 1000 or so?
I think I’ll just switch to Google XML sitemaps… seems way less buggy, no?

In reply to: [W3 Total Cache] Technical Explanation of Cache FolderThanks for a solid reply!
Here’s the oddity: Yes, I’ve looked at the source code and, in fact, there is no mention of w3 in the source code.
I have then attempted to delete the cache folder, but it is instantly recreated and starts to fill up!
That’s what’s so goofy… I literally can not delete the cache folder no matter how fast I am. To me this means something is still running somewhere.
… the original purpose of my concern is that, yes, some posts are getting 404 errors on them. Once I clear cache the 404s go away, but come back after a period of time. Right now I haven’t seen any in a while because I have been tinkering with the site and greatly reduced server usage… I still don’t know exactly what was causing it but I believe it has to do with the server use.
Anyway, don’t worry about that second part… what I’m trying to figure out is how can the cache folder fill up with stuff when the plugin is supposedly disabled!
Hey there… I seem to be having the same problem (or something very similar)
In my case I get a 500 error on my tag sitemap:
http://www.triplepundit.com/post_tag-sitemap.xmlI have 1000s of tags and most of them have no SEO title or description, but some of them do.
All were on “auto-detect”. I started switching a few to “always include” but the 500 error doesn’t change.
I suspect the reason is that if people have 1000s of tags then the file gets too big? So forcing you to include the pages that matter might make a little sense… assuming that’s what’s going on!

In reply to: [W3 Total Cache] Technical Explanation of Cache FolderThe last item here really is the most bizarre. How can things be written to that cache folder when the plugin is disabled?

In reply to: [W3 Total Cache] [Plugin: W3 Total Cache] Random 404Does anyone know a way to write a script that, say, clears the cache every 10 minutes? I’m losing my mind about this problem. I have a truly unusable site because of these 404s and still no solution in site…

In reply to: [W3 Total Cache] [Plugin: W3 Total Cache] Random 404Anyone see this problem while using Yoast SEO plugin?
I’m still having these darn things and am trying desperately to figure out what the conflict is. The most complex plugin I have is Yoast SEO … but it’s a bear to turn it off for the 24-48 hours needed to test.

In reply to: [W3 Total Cache] Persistent 404s on specific pagesHey atdblog – out of curiosity, when you say “issues” are you talking about 404s? I’m at my wits end on this and willing to try your method. Did you just over-write the new version with the old one? Or is there anything else that needs to be done?

In reply to: [W3 Total Cache] Persistent 404s on specific pagesInteresting, thanks a lot. I’m in the middle of a whole bunch of things including working directly with the w3tc guys, so I’m going to hold off (and keep waking up in the middle of the night to clear the cache) for now…
Perhaps we’ll see a new version of the plugin at some point that will address…
Many thanks.

In reply to: Attachment Errors in Google Webmaster ToolsRight…thanks. But all of the URLs that seem to have been indexed by google are dead links. I don’t know why. Any idea why that would be?

In reply to: Attachment Errors in Google Webmaster ToolsCool thanks. Well, that’s a solution, but first of all, why are all those attachement URLs invalid? Second, how in the world did google find them? there have been no links to anything like that as far as I can tell!

In reply to: [W3 Total Cache] Technical Explanation of Cache FolderRight, so seems this is going to keep falling on deaf ears, but here’s one other bizarre thing that perhaps someone would be able to shed some light on:
I finally managed to give new permissions to the cache folder – change the user from “nobody” to “myusername”.
Then I deleted the whole sucker. INSTANTLY it was recreated and started filling up again. 404s continued and everything got re-done under user “nobody”.
Then I actually disabled the plugin and repeated the process. Very strangely the cache folder STILL got instantly recreated and started filling up. How could that happen with the plugin disabled?
