  • To those asking about PayPal, as noted in the release post I linked to earlier, currently the blocks include support for PayPal standard (which is a payment method included with WooCommerce core).

When is the integration for other payments will be released?

I can’t give you an ETA on this because there are a variety of factors that will influence what we work on next and when they are available. I definitely understand the desire to have them available as soon as possible and we’re continuing to focus effort on improving the new Cart and Checkout blocks preview.

Is there anyway we can hire someone to get it integrated in this blocks?

If your wondering if there’s someone within the WooCommerce organization that you could hire, the answer is no. However, you could check with the companies listed here.

    Hi there,

I can understand your disappointment when trying out the Cart and Checkout Blocks when you have such high hopes for how they work! However, I think it’s important to mention (as we pointed out in our release post – which was also linked to from the changelog), that we released these new blocks as a preview. They definitely are not in the final form or functionality of what we consider for inclusion in WooCommerce core.

The purpose of this feature plugin (as outlined in the plugin notes) is:

…This plugin serves as a space to iterate and explore new Blocks and updates to existing blocks for WooCommerce, and how WooCommerce might work with the block editor.

Use this plugin if you want access to the bleeding edge of available blocks for WooCommerce. However, stable blocks are bundled into WooCommerce, and can be added from the “WooCommerce” section in the block inserter.

Given that, we are gathering feedback as a part of the preview process to discover the things folks look for most in Cart and Checkout flows so we can prioritize our work for future iterations.

We do recognize, that as people try them out, the initial limited integrations won’t be suitable for all stores, but we are iterating and will improve them with the feedback we get.

I appreciate you taking the time to share what matters most for you and your shop

    All the best!

    Hi there!

As noted in the release notes for the new blocks, this is an early preview of the blocks that we’ve released in the feature plugin so we can get feedback from folks willing to try the blocks before we get to the point for considering including the new blocks in WooCommerce core.

For the initial iteration of this preview, the blocks only have support for a limited set of payment methods (you can see which are supported in the release notes). We are going to be adding support for payment methods in future iterations and are listening to feedback and observing gateway usage (from opted-in tracking) to help guide what we prioritize.

If you’re interested in trying out the new blocks once they have support for your payment methods, you can follow the developer.woocommerce.com blog for updates or you can watch the changelog in updates to this feature plugin where we will link to any notes about a release (or have details on additional payment method support added).

    Hi Zak,

Thanks for testing the new Cart and Checkout blocks. As noted in the release notes for the blocks, the blocks are released as a preview for folks to try out and then give feedback on what is working not working so we can continue to improve them based on that feedback before considering merging to WooCommerce core.

You mentioned you encountered some issues with processing free orders (using 100% discount code). I just tried the following steps to attempt to reproduce and I didn’t have any issues:

    1. Created a 100% discount code that includes shipping in the discount (which also means I must have a free shipping code appropriately setup for the shipping zone I’m testing with).
    2. Added some products to the cart.
    3. Visited the page with the new checkout block.
    4. Applied the 100% discount code to the checkout.
    5. Clicked the “Place order” button and the order completed processing.

Would you be willing to share any more details about the steps you took that triggered your issue? I’m interested in trying to find out if we can reproduce it so no other users encounter the issue.

Also, one thing I do in testing the new blocks when I encounter an issue, is retry using the existing shortcode based checkout page to see if the issue happens there too. If it does, then it’s not something specific to the new blocks, but rather a potential issue with WooCommerce core itself (so that helps narrow down where to report and also for me to see if I may have a configuration issue etc).

No Order Notes too from what I can see.

Correct, the current iteration of the blocks does not have order notes support. However, that is definitely something we will be adding in a future iteration.

    Hi there,

The just released WooCommerce 2.6.1 contains the fix for the issue reported in this thread. With this version of the plugin, the new table creation should only fail if the database user does not have create privileges for the database your site is using.

For whose with this issue, you should just have to update the plugin and the table will get created automatically.

    Hi there,

With the release of 2.6.0, the description of the plugin was updated to include this text:

Note: Feature plugin for WooCommerce + Gutenberg. This plugin serves as a space to iterate and explore new Blocks and updates to existing blocks for WooCommerce, and how WooCommerce might work with the block editor.

Use this plugin if you want access to the bleeding edge of available blocks for WooCommerce. However, stable blocks are bundled into WooCommerce, and can be added from the “WooCommerce” section in the block inserter.

Is this what you were looking for?

    Hi there!

Thanks for giving the new blocks a try!

Sorry to read about the issue you encountered. From the error you are describing (grey shaded placeholders), it sounds like there is a JavaScript error happening on the frontend of your site which is preventing the blocks from loading.

If you’re familiar with browser developer tools and the console, would you be able to take a look at it and let us know what the error is that appears there? Alternatively, if this is on a publicly accessible site that you’re able to leave in the broken state temporarily (eg a staging site), I’d be happy to take a look at the page and see if I can spot the error (might not be until Monday though).

More than likely this is caused by a conflict with another plugin or maybe your theme on the frontend of your site. You can troubleshoot that potential issue via these instructions here.

    Hi @joshblumberg,

Yes there’s a link to the documentation in the Cart & Checkout blocks announcement post.

For the rest of the folks in this thread. We are aware of the desire for more payment method support. We focused the initial release on the most popular payment methods and we are listening to feedback here and in other places to help determine what is prioritized next.

Thanks so much for giving the blocks a try and leaving your comments here!

This message should only be showing up when something failed with creating the table when the plugin was activated. You can read more about what this custom table is and what it is for in this release post.

We’d love to know more about why the notification is appearing for you. I noticed that the original poster mentioned their user has all the necessary privileges for creating a new database table. I’m wondering if we could confirm that.

To be clear, the user this notification message is referring to, is not the WordPress site user, but the database user your WordPress install is configured to use. Some hosts do not allow custom tables to be created by this database user which would cause this notification.

We show the notification so you’re aware this table did not get created as it will help with preventing race conditions with low stock on busy sites.

One thing you could do is check with your host if the database user configured with your WordPress site is allowed to create tables and if not, if that could be changed. Once that user does get permissions the plugin will automatically retry creating the table and you should see the notice go away.

    Hi there,

As noted in the plugin readme.txt and in our release post, we use this feature plugin to among other things gather feedback about work we’re doing as a part of consideration for future releases in WooCommerce core. While it is intentional that the plugin contains bleeding edge features and blocks, we definitely are not intentionally releasing anything that would break peoples sites! If you’re experiencing bugs or functionality you don’t expect, we’d love to hear more because that helps guide the work we do before anything lands in WooCommerce core.

We certainly realize that not every store or merchant would like to use this plugin for those reasons, but that’s exactly why we release this work as a plugin so that merchants have the freedom to stick to what’s in WooCommerce if they don’t want to try out these features in advance.

I hope that helps clarify the purpose of the plugin!

    Hey folks,

We’re really happy to see people trying out the preview of the new Cart and Checkout blocks we just released!

As noted in our release post. We wanted to get this preview out to gather feedback from stores and merchants that would help us prioritize what we add next to the blocks (and to give third party developers to time to start adding support for their payment methods before we look at merging this to WooCommerce core).

Thanks for letting us know what you’re missing!

    Hi there,

As noted in our release post, Amazon Pay is not one of the payment methods supported in the initial preview of the Cart and Checkout blocks.

I understand it can be disappointing when you want to use the new blocks and the gateway you use isn’t supported. Part of the reason we got the preview out sooner was so that we could gather feedback from merchants and stores which would help us prioritize the work we do in future iterations.

So your feedback is noted, Thank you!

    Hi there @blauwevogel,

I’m sorry to read the plugin didn’t meet your expectations.

You mentioned that the plugin is not editable. Can you give some examples of what you were wanting to edit and unable to do so? We’re always listening to feedback from users to help us prioritize what we improve in the blocks.

It’s also clear you are really frustrated with the lack of pagination in some cases. Are there specific blocks where you were expecting pagination that you could not find it? Also, we do have pagination with the All Products block – one idea we’re considering is if we add the ability to set certain default filters (or parameters) for what the All Products blocks shows in the grid, if that would be sufficient to meet some of the needs here.

You mentioned you can’t understand how this plugin got released. We could definitely do a better job of communicating, but the intention behind this plugin is that it acts as a feature plugin where we experiment with new blocks that could eventually find their way to WooCommerce core (many already have). It helps us to iterate a bit quicker than WooCommerce core and gather feedback from folks like yourself to help us improve the blocks.

You mentioned that you observed the plugin is “squashed with bugs and flaws”. Would you be willing to share with us the bugs you discovered or the flaws where it didn’t work as you expected? We do test the plugin and try to make sure we catch as many bugs as we can before publishing it, but there may be things that slip through our testing from time to time. If you’re unwilling to share, I understand, however, we are keen to fix what we can once its surfaced.

    All the best!

Hi there folks, just wanted to let you know that we’ve seen the suggested improvements requested here for the Products by Category block including:

    – the ability to show more products than the maximum currently allowed via configuration.
    – the ability to introduce pagination.

One thing we could explore here is improving the All Products block to allow for configuring it to default to specific filtered results for the block (i.e. only show products from a single (or multiple) categories! That way it could meet more wider needs that are not met by other blocks in the library as well.

I’ve created an issue for us to keep this in mind as we plan future improvements for the blocks.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks! I’m sorry the blocks don’t sufficiently meet all your needs currently – but we are paying attention to threads like this to spot ways we can improve things.

    No.
