I’ve changed the calendar and re-populated it so what you’re actually seeing is ‘The Events Calendar’ plugin in use. I probably should have pointed this out.

Yeah, my calendar didn’t even work on reload.
I’ve now opted for ‘The Events Calendar’ but that’s not nearly as neat as AI1EC. There are some good premium (cheap) alternatives on CodeCanyon which look promising.

I’m asking for clarification solely on the existing content of the thread. I think it would help other people who stumble on this thread looking for an actual answer rather than “oh, I’ve figured it out for myself, thanks”.
