Chosen language xili-language don’t use cookies but adapt the links (pages, categories) to be sure to remain in the same language space.
The best way for you is to test in your real configuration and use the support form in plugin settings to have direct contact with this 5 years plugin’s author.

In reply to: [xili-language] language is not detected with ChromeWith XL, you totally free to add a post… the language taxonomy is independent from the other taxonomy… so when you add a post, set the language and publish it when the post is ready. In lot of website using XL, posts in one language are not necessary “mirror” in another…

According online doc theme seems to be localizable and ready to create front-end mo file via poedit if not yet available.
What xili-language plugin detects : this framework don’t use canonical wp function to localize a theme :load_theme_textdomain. Probably uses another generic function but not hookable by plugin…
xili-language plugin is free and the author cannot make a free deeper diagnosis with a not free (profitable) theme. Some other framework creator provides for free and xili-language developer can provides consulting hours or delivers adapted themes for pro.
Via the support form included in xili-language admin settings screen ask developer for a quotation if you want to pursue.

In reply to: Multisite or Subfolders for Multilingual Site?As experimented as web designer with an international multilingual corporate website, the best solution is WP network (multisite) install with domain mapping plugin (from automattic). The geo localization is made by the server itself and domain (or sub domain) attached to each site (language).

A similar plugin for WP network is http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/multilingual-press/ who has two versions, a free and a pro. Visit their forums and try it on a testing server. And tell us your feedback.M.
