In reply to: Adding an RSS feed to the of a page in 6.1Thanks, Faisal. I may use the plugin — that certainly would make things a bit simpler.
Where is header.php in WordPress 6.1? I would expect it in wp-content/themes/twenty twenty-three/ but there isn’t anything in there. A “parts” folder has a header.html, but it only has arcane calls to other functions and nowhere I can drop in the RSS link.

In reply to: What countries need access to run wp_version_check()?Hi Pascal,
You’re the plugin’s author so I’m clearly not going to second-guess your experience with it, but with iQ Block Country as the only plugin running on my site, and the US blocked from the backend, wp_version_check() doesn’t work.
When I add U.S. to the countries that can access the backend, that warning goes away.
I can’t speak to why this is happening exactly, but on my site, with the latest MaxMind database installed, it’s happening.
Screenshots for your reference:

In reply to: What countries need access to run wp_version_check()?Hi Pascal,
You’re incorrect. You have to enable United States access to the back end within iQ Block Country for wp_version_check() to work. You can try it yourself and see.

In reply to: What countries need access to run wp_version_check()?Thanks, James!
Great examples — thanks, James! I was kind of hoping somebody might have a best-of-breed list of links to various sites to give me an idea of various implementations, but both sites are excellent and very inspiring.

In reply to: WordPress 5.0 – Where did the post categories in sidebar go??The categories would only not display if you somehow turned off ‘show in rest’ for them. Are you using a plugin that blocks or edits the rest api?
There it is: deactivating them one by one, I see that iThemes Security inhibits the “Categories” from appearing.
@gatehealing, when I deactivate iThemes my categories also don’t appear when I expand “categories” on the right, but DO appear if I then click underneath the word “Categories,” in the blank piece of space created by the flyout.
@ipstenu: Thanks for pointing this out. This leaves me in a bit of a bind, as iThemes Security is a pretty essential plugin to enhance WP security. I’ll move this conversation over to their forums and let them know 5.0 isn’t playing nicely.

In reply to: WordPress 5.0 – Where did the post categories in sidebar go??Can you click the icon with the three dots next to the cog icon (on the far right in the toolbar), click the “Options” menu item in the bottom and check that “Categories” and “Tags” are present and checked beneath the “Document Panels” heading?
They are not present (so can’t be checked):

In reply to: WordPress 5.0 – Where did the post categories in sidebar go??Gatehealing, if you post and then view all posts and hit “Quick Edit” on the post in question, categories _are_ appearing in the Quick Edit function. I’m posting and immediately adding categories that way until this gets fixed.

In reply to: WordPress 5.0 – Where did the post categories in sidebar go??If the right sidebar isn’t visible, click the cog icon in the top right of the toolbar. The “Categories” and “Tags” sections are close to the bottom of the sidebar.
No, they aren’t:
…okay, it seems to have resolved itself. After considerably fiddling around, adding navigation (“jump”) to the mini-calendar seems to have restored the pop-up and event opening functions. Hm!
It was absolutely Point 2 that I was missing, and I needed (or not, but it seemed that way) to do it both in the category and in the “master settings” for PowerPress. Thanks very much, Shawn!

In reply to: [My Calendar - Accessible Event Manager] Style in calendar titles? That’s very helpful, Joe, thanks.
The other issue is with the “Upcoming Events” widget, which seems to pull the title (which is what’s resisting styling) from the event. If there was a way to make cancelled events red (or any colour) in the widget, that would be handy.
This is definitely in the “nice to have but not essential” category, though, so I understand if it’s not possible.
Hi Joachim,
Yes — and oddly enough, the problem seemed to resolve itself a few hours after I posted the question without intervention, so I’m guessing it was something else causing the problem.
