In reply to: Search box and button styling: where can I get help? Thanks for the link. So FF is the culprit — I’ll get to reading. All I want is to have a “clean” box without any FF-applied beveling or whatnot.

In reply to: Search box and button styling: where can I get help?Arrgh! Sorry. Actually, I’m talking about a different site: venerable-bede.com.
And I can’t find what in that style creates the bevel effect around the search bar. It’s clearer when the search button is below the search bar — the search bar gets “pushed” a pixel by that bevel effect.

In reply to: Beginner question: feeding different blogs from central blog?Given that you’re a mod, I could be totally wrong here, but what I’m looking for is actually the opposite: not one blog with many users, but one user “fuelling” many blogs from a central “superblog.”
Plus this has scared me off MU pretty effectively. I can handle a bit of basic code, but the skillset to run MU seems to be far beyond my capabilities.
If there are any other ideas out there I’d love to hear ’em.

In reply to: Blocking comments by geography? Thanks a lot. I’ll give it a try. I’ve saved that as a .php file, uploaded it to the plugin folder, and activated it in the control panel — that should do it, right?

In reply to: Blocking comments by geography? For current tracking, I’m taking the IP from the Manage/Comments admin screen and running it through WHOIS.
I wasn’t sure which forum this should be posted in (maybe it’s a requested feature?) but this one seemed to be the most “catch-all” for this sort of problem.

In reply to: A “learner theme” for beginners?I will search for both themes, Sandbox and FastTrack, and thanks!
My OP was meant in more general terms, though — as somebody new to WordPress, there’s no clear guidance in the Codex about which themes are good for beginners to learn on.
I know WP is volunteer-driven, and things like the Codex and the lessons are probably lower on the priority list than improving the software itself. But if there was a section in the beginners part of the Codex that said “hey, you should consider installing one of the following themes before you start mucking around”, that would be great!
Even greater would be an actual theme, as mentioned above, that’s actually intended for new learners, especially since the “default” theme is counter-intuitively NOT a good theme to learn from (or so I’m now told).

In reply to: Centering my header image (based on default)Perfect! Thanks a million.
I guess the “why” of it is bothering me, too — if the header is centered in style.css, what makes it slip left like that?
