In reply to: How to Use TrackbackThe object is to “further the discussion.” If a visitor to your blog reads a post and notes a permalink (explained below) to another post on a related or same subject they can also read that post.
The simple version:
You have a post on baking bread, for example (Blog A), another blog (B) also has a post on the same subject. On blog B there will be (or should be) a “TrackBack URL” listed.
Copy that URL and place it in the “Send trackbacks” box below the text section of your edit/write post page. The trackback will be sent when you publish the post.
A word about etiquette: As a general rule the person sending the trackback should place somewhere within their post a mention and link (The permalink on their post) of the blog the TB was sent to.
Something like, “John of Blog B also has a good article on baking whole wheat bread.”
That can take any form you like, whatever fits your style of writing and the post it’s contained in. As I said that is the general rule and many bloggers if they receive a TB and note there is not permalink of his blog in your post they may deleate the TB.

In reply to: Can WordPress Support Pictures Inside Comments?“Ideally, I would like to allow visitors to upload small pics and include them in their comments.”
A word of caution: I understand you want to provide this option for your visitors, but.
If your comments are open, i.e. comment without registering, you may soon find spammers discovering a new toy to play with and you’ll see less than desirable pics on your site.
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: Forum Plugin for wordpress? You could look at the Vanilla forum. It is PHP MySQL based and is 100% open-source.
The developers forum is here. The lastest ver was released this month in BETA form and it includes themes very similar to how WP worlk. Each visitor to the forum can select their own style sheet of the ones you have selected for display.

In reply to: 2.0 Very Soon!!Thanks ringmaster that’s good to know. I had tried EZStatic at one point and couldn’t get it to work correctly for some season.
I’ll play with it more on my home box before going to 2.0

In reply to: 2.0 Very Soon!!podz – “Days ? Months here ..”
It may be a month at least here also. I noted in asymptomatic’s thread on plugins that have been tested, or failed, ColdForge’s headline image plugin and RunPHP are missing.
They may or may not work and I’m not sure I can live without either one. So it’s wait and see.

In reply to: 2.0 Very Soon!!And may I add, be sure to disable ALL plugins prior to upgrading. This is more important with this new ver because of all the new hooks 2.0 has.
In my case I will wait a few days before making the switch. That way I can see others plugin errors, upgrade problems etc, etc.
Enjoy
You give me too much credit vkaryl.
BableFish is a wonderful thing.

In reply to: Comments – Can I edit it so only I can post? Why on earth would you comment on your own self authored post unless it was in response to someone elses comment?
But maybe you’re right Podz, and we both are missing something.

In reply to: Is this forum a wp plugin? Not sure what your definition of “forum-like capability” is. A forum does nothing but allow a post and follow on comments. Unless of course you are attempting to allow visitors to start a new subject and thread, in that case I doubt if that type of plugin is available.
Anyway maybe the Threaded Comments plugin is something to check out.
Forum: Your WordPress
In reply to: one account, multiple blogs..doable on WP?Get your own domain, then set up how ever many blogs you need using a seperate folder for each. Then set up sub-domains for each through your CPanel or whatever interface your host has installed
Example:

In reply to: Live (ajax) Spell CheckerGo in via an FTP client and delete the plugin. That should clear the problem.
Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: *Page Template and Side Bar*Without a link it’s hard to analize what the problem is.
My guess is either the content area or the sidebar has something within it that is too large and that forves the sidebar to the bottom.

In reply to: Hiring: Someone to Help Pimp Our WordPress BlogsThere is an old saying that seems to fit the occasion: You get what you pay for.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t most coders/designers charge from 2 to four times that amount?
