You’re very welcome. Well done π
I’ve been away from the computer for a couple of days. Yes, I have 1.9.5, and I just checked my page. Everything is working! Yay! Next payday, I’ll be upgrading to Premium. You’re support for us free-trial users is awesome, and you’ve VERY responsive! I appreciate all your help. π
Marking this thread as resolved.
Yes, go ahead and close the thread.
However, according to YouTube, the old username won’t work for anything any more. If there are users with accounts so old that they still have a username, and that username works with your plugin, you should update the instructions for the settings to clarify that you can use EITHER the username OR the Channel ID, but not both. It was the lack of that instruction that caused me all this frustration and this long thread.
Thanks. π
The way you have the subscription count setting form set up, it appears that you must have both the username (which doesn’t exist) and the Channel ID, so I hadn’t tried it with just the channel ID. I left the username field blank and saved the settings, and now the automatic count appears. You should probably remove the username field to avoid this confusion in the future, especially since it’s not necessary. Why doesn’t your developer know that?
It works with the channel ID now, but not the User ID
I installed the update. I’m still unable to retrieve my likes count from Facebook. It still works if I enter it manually, but my count is changing daily now and I don’t want to have to go in an manually update the count every day.
According to YouTube, there is no such thing as a username. However, they give conflicting information in response to the question “What is my username” – and both answers are from 2014. They don’t appear to have any updated answers since then.
“A YouTube channel, strictly speaking, no longer HAS a “username” as such. Now it is the custom URL which is being referred to and not the title (the name with the space is a title). If you cannot use the bits from after com/channel/ in the channel’s URL try giving your YouTube channel a custom URL in YouTube settings / Advanced.”
“The username is actually the Google account’s email address username (which is also one word- no spaces as are all email addresses). What used to be considered a YouTube channel’s username (and which no longer works as a username) is the custom URL of a YouTube channel which has one (not all channels do)”
I tried using my email Google account’s email address, but that didn’t work. If I give my channel a custom URL in the advanced settings, then my channel name will change and I don’t know that the new URL will work for the subscribe link, so I don’t want to mess with that.
Okay, I updated. I also saw in another thread here that another user was having this exact same problem – https://wordpress.org/support/topic/youtube-subscribe-2/#post-10212999
If I use the User Name, I still get the error message.
When I use the Channel ID, the subscribe link is visible. After editing other behaviors and saving, the link is still there, so it “sticks” now.
Apparently my work-around doesn’t last. After updating some other settings, the error icon returned. I’m giving up for now and removing it from the YouTube button.
When I’m able to purchase the Premium version, I’ll open a support ticket and give your techs access to my WP dashboard, but in the mean time please keep me posted here of your progress in solving this mystery.
If I select the User Name radio button and paste dc1RFrASgOuHHakvtVpuaA into the User Name field and then click either “Save” or “Save All Settings” I get the error button every time, in all browsers.
If I select the Channel ID and paste UCdc1RFrASgOuHHakvtVpuaA into the Channel ID field and then click either “Save” or “Save All Settings,” the Subscribe button works in all browsers. But, if I then click “Save All Settings” again, the subscribe button is replaced with the error button.
If I reset the Channel ID button so that it works again, and then update a different setting, such as the animation behavior, it continues to work. So I will simply not click the Save All Settings button and it will keep working. However, you should look for a bug in that function. And like I said, with the User Name, it never works.
I will try it for you, because you’ve been so nice. π
But I really have tried this about a dozen times and triple-checked and verified that I’m using the right ID with the right radio button. It works for me until I update something else and save the update. Then it reverts to the error. I will post again when I’ve tested it one more time.
This is the URL to my YouTube channel – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdc1RFrASgOuHHakvtVpuaA
Cool! Thanks!
So, it’s been two days and the like count are still not being pulled from FB
