In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Powerpoint slides missing smartartHi Rick,
Not sure it’s wise for you to post your password publicly here? I’m assuming this is a throwaway, but still…
I see the link, in any case, but I don’t know what the files are supposed to look like, so I don’t have much frame of reference. The way the document converts occurs outside my plugin, as the conversion is performed by Google Docs (Drive). You may have more luck, as I mentioned to “evilone,” converting your powerpoints to PDF files and linking to those instead, as this may “flatten” the pages to the extent that they will appear more correct in the viewer.
Hope this helps,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Displaying CodeHello,
This can occur for two reasons:
1) The document link is not correct (such as 404 Not Found) – as in your case, based on your support email.
2) The document is in an Office XML (2007+) format that Google Viewer can’t render correctly, in which case you should convert it to the older Office 2003 format (.doc instead of .docx, etc.). This isn’t your issue, but I’ll answer the question thoroughly here in case anyone runs into it in the future. π

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Powerpoint slides missing smartartGoogle Viewer has difficulty rendering some background art. I would suggest (since the viewer converts everything to images anyway) you create a PDF of your powerpoint – which you can do natively in powerpoint via “Save As,” no other software needed – and see if it displays better in that format.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Plugin not working suddenlyNo Google account is necessary. If they have one, they will probably be logged into it or logged out of it already. I would consider this a niche circumstance, not a broad problem. But some users may be affected. How or if you choose to let users know about this is up to you. This plugin can’t control this aspect of Google’s viewer… it is what it is.
The support tab currently in requires WP 3.4+ due to a piece of debug information it’s collecting. I’ll lower that requirement in subsequent versions. Sorry for the inconvenience.
You’re right, the button isn’t showing up there in old versions of WordPress. I’m not sure why, but I’ll put a fix for that into the next update. Upgrading WordPress is usually a great idea, though.
In the meantime, my email address is also in the GPL statement at the top of the main plugin file, gviewer.php. Thanks for pointing out this issue.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Plugin is not getting activatedAsmeet,
I’ll need a URL of the page you’re seeing the error on to give you help with specific documents. Feel free to use the “Support” tab in GDE Settings.

In reply to: Removing Profile Options from Subscribers and ContributorsThis is plugin territory, but a pretty simple one… here is some sample code that could get you started:
Hi Scott,
As you’ve probably read elsewhere (though this thread keeps diverging to other issues), all you need to do is deactivate and reactivate GDE to solve the profile problem that is affecting some installs. If you’re getting the documents to load at all, this isn’t the problem you’re having.
I visited the URL you provided above but I only see a hard-coded download link. The GDE plugin isn’t loading anywhere on that page; perhaps you’ve updated it since you posted here. Feel free to send another link.
Thanks,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Download linkYou don’t need to use the shortcode save option if you just turn off the link option in your default profile (“General” tab in GDE Settings). That said, if you set save=0 that should still remove the download link.
You’ll need to share a link or something, either here or on the support tab in settings, because that’s not normal behavior.
I’m a “regular” web site user, and I didn’t. π
Seriously though… there is only one instance I can think of where they might, but (I would say) is fairly uncommon: They are logged into a Google account, but that login has expired (“stale”). You can be logged in to a Google account, be logged out, or not have one at all, but in some cases an “expired” login will cause problems.
This is Google’s genius. You’ve heard of “logged in” and “logged out.” They have brought the world this new innovation called “logged in sorta.” That’s the only one that may break (their own) viewer.
Hi Dan,
This is a browser cache issue; the PDF displays normally in Chrome and FF and IE for me. Please read the Notes.
Thanks,
Kevin
