In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Idea: Bigger or editable timeout for Advanved viewerHi Tanel,
I’ll plan on bumping that value up to 10 or 15 in the next release. I thought about tying it to the max file size, but since that value can technically be set to zero (unlimited), it’s probably easier to set the value in a standard way.
Thanks for the extra information, and for the good suggestion.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Idea: Bigger or editable timeout for Advanved viewerHi Tanel,
Thanks for the suggestion. I’m curious about a couple of things based on your experimentation: what happened when you tried to load a file that was too large with the default timeout set? And, do you find it works well with smaller values (ie., 15 or 30)?
I’m hesitant to put the timeout at a full minute; that may well give the impression the page has stopped responding and the visitor would move on anyway. I’d like to set it to the smallest possible, reasonable value.
Thanks for your feedback,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] GDE Loading Old Version of FileHello,
Please add
cache="0"to your shortcode for this item. That will override the cache of the document. The cache is maintained by Google, so there isn’t anything that you can do to clear it locally, but this option forces Google to reload it from the source each time.Let me know if you need more help.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] GDE Error: Sorry, we were unable to find the documentHi adrian,
This is probably easy enough to explain, but I don’t have enough info here to give you a definitive answer. In general it means that Google can’t reach the document URL you’ve provided. That could mean that the link is actually incorrect, or that it’s hosted somewhere Google can’t access (such as local dev environment). These are the most likely explanations.
If you need help with a specific document, please post a URL here or using the “Support” tab in GDE Settings to mail me directly. Thanks!

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Intermittent Error – Bandwidth LimitSorry for the trouble. This issue isn’t well documented by Google (and they generate the error, not the plugin), but see this thread for some ideas.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Links inside the pdf are not clickableHello,
Thanks for the clarifying post. I see the difference here in that Google Viewer supports embedded links to external sites, but does not seem to support links to other pages within the document itself. (Assuming you’re referencing the “table of contents” links in your PDF).
Unfortunately this element is controlled by Google and not GDE. If in the future internal linking support is added it will be extended in the plugin automatically, but I would consider this unlikely. The product is not well supported by Google at this point (as many of their projects tend to be).
Sorry I don’t have more helpful news at this point.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Links inside the pdf are not clickableBy default links in PDFs are usually clickable. Can you share a URL or something I can see?
Look at the second example on this page – the text links to google.com.
If you’re using private documents, it’s possible you’ve turned off the ability to click on links, but that is not the default setting.
I’m hoping to add more options like this in the next major version, but that’s not possible now.
If you just want the link, you don’t need the plugin at all, but you can just insert the file using the media library in WordPress.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] inserting shortcode from media libraryHi sdetroy,
Assuming you’re using the most recent version of GDE (even if your WordPress version appears a bit out of date), do you see that the option to insert shortcode from the media library is checked in GDE Settings?
If indeed you’re using WP 3.4.x, when you’re in the media library do you see options to check a box for inserting the shortcode and selecting a profile? The box there is checked and you still get a link rather than a shortcode inserted?
Just trying to determine at what part of the process it may be breaking down for you. Thanks for any clarification.
Thanks, I will look into the possibility of adding a page number entry point as well in future versions.
Hello PS,
Currently there is no option for this. Your best solution at the moment is to open the full screen view in a new window (tab), then when they close it they will be back where they started. I will consider adding this feature to the full screen viewer in a future version.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] No PDF display after previous successHi Loopster,
The link you sent in your email (if I’m connecting the right requests) works fine on my end, so I do believe it’s either browser cache or Google cookie related on your end and isn’t affecting visitors as a whole. Adding or removing the plugin won’t address this; you need to clear your browser cache (including “app cache” or equivalent in some browsers) and/or remove cookies related to your site and to Google.
I’m sorry that I can’t give specific instruction for that browser as I neither use Safari nor have a mac, but hopefully this points you in the right direction.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Powerpoint slides missing smartartRick,
I can’t control what’s posted here, so you may just want to change the password (if you haven’t).
The plugin has limitations because it does rely on a third-party service for file conversion. That fact is out there and well documented, and there are certainly ways to improve that on a per document basis. However, if this does not meet your needs you are wise to move to something else. It is a limitation but it’s working as designed.
Thanks,
Kevin
