In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] HTTP Error on media uploadI know Amazon S3 for WordPress is a rather old plugin, so de-activating it was the first thing I tried. However, I still get the HTTP error if Jetpack is activated.
I have also discovered that some (but not all) of the thumbnails displayed by the [gallery] shortcode had disappeared – I think after removing then replacing Jetpack. When I deactivated the Photon module they started to display again.
I can live without Photon, but I would like to keep using some of the other Jetpack features.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] HTTP Error on media uploadSorry for the delay – I’m travelling and internet is only available sporadically.
I’ve just updated to Jetpack 3.9.1, but the problem persists.
I have manually replaced all the WordPress files via FTP
Uploads work fine when Jetpack is de-activated, so I assume my settings are OK.
Error log here: http://pastebin.com/a1CxbwM2
You will see my images get sent to a Amazon bucket, and are accessed via am “assets” subdomain.

In reply to: HTTP Error since 4.4.1 upgradeThe site is finally back up, and I managed to activate Jetpack 3.9.0
It hasn’t fixed the problem, however.
I’ll post on the Jetpack forum as you suggest.

In reply to: HTTP Error since 4.4.1 upgradeYou might be right – the site has been down for over an hour now, and the engineers haven’t been able to get it re-started.

In reply to: HTTP Error since 4.4.1 upgradeAttempting to activate the new version of JetPack crashed the MySQL server.
I’m now waiting for my host to re-start it.

In reply to: HTTP Error since 4.4.1 upgradeThanks NeoTechnomad.
I see Jetpack has released version 3.9.0 – for some reason I have not been offered an update.
I’ll try updating manually, and see if that fixes things.

In reply to: Edit page blankI have a site like this. Very old posts that are not encoded UTF-8 do not show up in the edit screen like you describe. They also don’t display characters like quotation marks or apostrophes, etc.
If I need to edit these posts I just copy all the text from the public facing page into the editor and it’s all good from then on.
I think there is a way to update the whole database at once, but I’ve been too nervous to try this.
I’ve tried your suggestion of saving as a PDF and the links work fine.
The particular file in question is is MS Excel, and the links are a field in a table.
I’ll see if this meets the client’s needs. Thanks for your help.
Thanks KTS915 – I’ve tried the links from a LibreOffice document as suggested – they work fine. They also work from Google docs.
So your hunch seems to be correct, it must be something MS Office does to the link.
If anyone can suggest a work-around it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the advice KTS915, but the choice of software is outside of my control – this is something my clients require.
I’ve discovered what I was doing wrong.
My (only)Custom Post Type test was set to “private” – coz it’s a live site – but this makes your plugin think no Postmeta fields are in use.
Now I’ve set it to ‘Public”, the Postmeta options are available as expected.
Thanks for prompt attention anyway websupporter.
I created two of the fields with Types and one with the standard “Add custom field”. They are just text fields.

In reply to: 3.8 update hangs on "Unpacking the update"I ran into this problem again when upgrading to 4.0
Before resorting to a manual upgrade, I tried re-naming the plugin folder to deactivate them all, and the auto update worked perfectly.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Can't update Jetpack pluginNeither of the last two updates worked for me either. It just hangs at “unpacking update”.
After waiting for 5 minutes or so I have to FTP in and remove the .maintenance file to bring the site back.
There is nothing in the server error logs. I did find Jetpack files in a tmp directory so it looks like they do get to the server.
Deleting the entire plugin and uploading a new version is a big mission – perhaps you could make a zip available containing only the changed files like there used to be for the core update?
