I have this same problem. I have the “Show previous/next post links” checked but they are not showing. If I set the number of featured posts to “4” then 4 will show but no way to see posts prior to those four.
I am having the same problem. even tried uninstalling and reinstalling 2.5.1

I checked the database name/user/password in the wp-config.php file and it is correct.
