People who are having problems with this. I’ve solved it by making the .htaccess file temporarily writable.

WordPress version: 3.4.2
WordPress SEO version: 1.3.1.1

I can also verify this problem. Not just for the contributor role but also for the subscriber role.

I can also confirm that the widget is working fine again after changing to http instead of https
