Hi @caitie,
Try reaching out to your web host about this issue. According to the error message, the connection attempt is timing out. Your connection may not be reaching the Google server if the hosting server is blocking your connection, or possibly all outgoing connections (which is becoming more common these days).
I hope that helps! Have a great day!

Hi there @jvsouthwood,
Thanks for the information on what you’re seeing happen. From your description, the connection to Sendinblue/Brevo is good and the emails are being passed to their service. That’s why you’re not receiving any errors when you try to send test emails, and the “An email request was sent to the Sendinblue API” message comes up. This indicates the message was sent to their servers, and your site didn’t get any error messages back.
That said, it does sound like something may be going on with the Sendinblue/Brevo side of things. Try reaching out to the Sendinblue support team so they can take a look at your account. This may be an effect of the recent changes in their system to as they’ve been transitioning into Brevo. They should be able to look into this to help get your logs in Brevo working.
I hope this helps! Have a great day!
Hey @barretd,
When you have trouble getting email, the first step is to check the debug logs. If there is an issue communicating with the mailer service, the debug logs will often show an error message that can help point to the problem. Check out this guide on our site. It walks through our Debug feature. Using the Debug system in WP Mail SMTP, you’re able to check the logs of failed emails and any available error messages:

I hope that helps! Have a great day! 🙂

Hey @oldrup,
Thanks for taking the time to leave a rating and such a detailed review! It’s great to hear that you’ve sent that many emails without issues. You’re right that plugins can’t fix the issues you mentioned, and those particular areas are hugely important to reliable email delivery. And as you mentioned, once you have those in place, a tool like WP Mail SMTP can help make sure your WordPress emails are delivered effectively through your SMTP server.
Thanks again for the detailed review. We hope you continue to have a great experience with our plugin for years to come!
Have a great day!

Hi there @aajax,
A 500 Internal Server Error is a server-side error, and since WordPress hides sensitive error information, you’ll need to check your error logs to find out what is causing the error to be thrown.
Check out this post on the WPBeginner website. It goes over information on 500 Internal Server Error messages, including how to enable debugging to find out what the real error message is. This will help you determine where the break is occurring, which from the looks of it, is likely either a plugin conflict or possibly a server resource exhaust issue. Enabling debug should help:

I hope that helps!
Have a great day! 🙂
