In reply to: [The SEO Framework – Fast, Automated, Effortless.] Support for WPMLThanks @cybr for sharing that link. The reason I asked is because in Google search results my secondary language home page shows as “Meta Title – Mysite”
However in the settings I have it to show as “Mysite | Meta Title“. So I am not sure why Google has not used what we specified. Is that normal?

Hi (@cybr),
Yes fully understand your point. Ive not paid you for that question 🙂 They don’t do SEO which is possibly why I quizzed you!
Actually WPML have no 301 redirect system in place. Yes they automatically update all the URLs, but they dont provide 301 redirection.
Have a great weekend

In reply to: [The SEO Framework – Fast, Automated, Effortless.] Export sitemap URLsHi (@cybr)
Many thanks for your reply. It’s not a functionality you would ever normally need. It is only beucase i am having to paste a lot of URLs to the .htraccess. Will try your suggestion. Cheers
Hi @cybr
Or would this be the correct way to do this:
mysite.eu/nice-cars/ > mysite.eu/en/nice-cars/
mysite.eu/cars/ > mysite.eu/en/nice-cars/So basically I create 2 new redirects, from both the old URL’s to the new URL. It creates more redirects in the .htacess, but ensures that all old URL’s link to the new URL (hopefully without creating a chain)…
??
Hi @cybr
I have a question I’m scratching my head on right now, regarding these redirects and “redirect chains” which I’m trying to avoid. If we are redirecting a URL which is already redirected in the .htaccess, what is the best way to do this?
If you look below, I try and explain this. In the second set of redirects (Example of future redirect) you can see I have to actually add a second redirect if we are to do this primary language switch on our website.
Is the best way just to replace the previous redirect URL (mysite.eu/nice-cars/) with the new redirect URL (mysite.eu/en/nice-cars/), whilst keeping the original URL (mysite.eu/cars/) the same? If I do this, how does google treat the “mysite.eu/nice-cars/” redirect URL, which will not appear in my .htaccess anymore as it has been replaced? This URL has already been indexed by Google, so maybe I need to keep the redirect on that URL in place.
I basically am not sure how to handle these redirect chains in the .htaccess. Any ideas on that greatly appreciated.
Example of existing redirect in .htaccess
mysite.eu/cars/
(301 redirect)
mysite.eu/nice-cars/Example of future redirect
mysite.eu/cars/
(301 redirect)
mysite.eu/nice-cars/
(301 redirect)
mysite.eu/en/nice-cars/- This reply was modified 5 years, 11 months ago by dav74.
Many thanks @cybr for your detailed reply. Yes 301 redirecting all the URLs is the only option. Sadly my hosting doesn’t offer the Wildcard option and WPML have no redirect system in place either!
It might be a case of adding the 1000 odd URLs to the .htaccess. I think thats the only option…
Thansk again 🙂
No worries. Yes better to be safe than sorry I guess. Have a good weekend!
No. The GM text box is required to tick. If you do not, you cannot order. Simple as that.
However the DHL plugin checkbox is optional. It basically is offering them a service. If they tick it then their contact details are forwarded to DHL (via the DHL plugin) and they will receive tracking updates. If they do not forward it then they do not. We hope that all customers tick it, as it leads to less problems and less work our end. And I believe most customers probably do tick it.
Saying all that, I want to provide the tracking link in the order confirmation email, so I will possibly add that feature, as it is already a feature the DHL plugin offers (thanks to the guys behind the plugin!)
So cover yourself with an obligatory checkbox with GM. Offer the optional tracking service with the DHL plugin. No need to have these snippets – at least that’s what I do.
Hopefully one day the EU commission will realise that having to check these boxes and have popups on entering any site is a pain for everyone, and will find an alternative solution 🙂
Hello @mbainbridge
We use a combination of German market and our legal text supplier, which provides the legal advise for what we should be adding at checkout in respect to what information is provided to DHL etc. You can also edit the GM (German Market) tick box text to include your own version of text and make the text more precise or more general as required.
GM textbox – I confirm my personal information can be sent to our shipping provider etc.
DHL textbox – I consent to DHL receiving my email / telephone number to be used for the tracking of my order.Basically, there should just be one checkbox here in an ideal world, but we have to have 2 (as we have both the GM and DHL plugin). At the end of the day, customers should always have to give their email to DHL as it is a service which helps them to successfully receive their order.
The whole GDPR thing has in many cases been taken too far. Customers at the end of the day want to receive their package and also want to have DHL provide them with tracking information.
At the moment we have to ask the customer twice if they consent to DHL using their data, once via the German Market plguin and once via the DHL plugin. Overkill. I’m certainly not wanting a third checkbox to ask consent for DHL to use their email and phone number (again).
Hi @alesmal
Many thanks for your reply. Will the 503 code actually block bots rather than discourage them?
Ah that explains it! Many thanks for your reply and informing me about that. Looks as though I better keep up the work of the 301 redirects in the .htaccess.
You mentionned the redirect function of TSF. How does that work? I’ve not seen that feature…
