In reply to: [Plugin: Yet Another Related Posts Plugin] When does the cache get built? What about the author? It’s a shame as it’s the only of its kind that used to actually work, at least on my setup and as my site is a news and current affairs ‘blog’ being able to cross-reference articles is a tremendously useful to readers.

In reply to: [Plugin: Yet Another Related Posts Plugin] Broken in 2.9?Hi,
YARPP was the only one of its kind that I’ve actually gotten to work properly. However I’ve discovered that it’s causing havoc with MsQL. Here’s the report from my (excellent) hosting co who brought it to my attention:Bill
We’ve been seeing a lot of large, badly written MySQL queries coming in from your user of late. It looks to be something to do with a plugin, “yarpp_related_cache”. Would you be able to disable the plugin involved?
I’ve copied the query report below, if you’re interested (or if you want to send it on to the plugin’s creator :))
Best regards,
Johnathon

In reply to: How come I never get an answer about WP’s awful editor?Hi Chris,
Yes, two, but one (Convey it) has been running pretty much ever since I launched Creative-i in 2008 without any problems. The other, the Google Widget has been installed for about 3 months.Tedious is not the word I’d use, but yes I’ll have to bite the bullet…
Thanks
Bill

In reply to: How come I never get an answer about WP’s awful editor?Hi Chris,
Couldn’t login into the Forum until just now, no idea why.Ok, I post to Creative-i in a number of ways:
1. Marsedit
2. Vodpod
3. The WP editor directly. The dreaded <p><br class=”spacer_” /></p> gets added AFTER publishing/editing regardless of the source and what’s worse there’s nothing consistent about it. Sometimes it doesn’t get added and sometimes it does. Sometimes it’s just one but more likely it’s in multiples.
And yes, I always make sure the text is ‘clean’ before uploading or publishing. It’s only been happening since 2.9x. I now always view the post in WSIWYG and source but it’s a drag as it triples the time involved in publishing as I have to check again and again to make sure it hasn’t crept in again.
BTW, I’m running on OSX 10.5.8 and using Firefox 3.5.7
I can get the Server profile if you need it.

In reply to: WP won’t accept passwordShamefaced, I take it all back! I just the other combo and it worked, well kindof because the upgrade failed:
Upgrade Plugin
Downloading update from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/all-in-one-seo-pack.zip.
Unpacking the update.
Could not create directory /home/creative/public_html/wp-content/upgrade/all-in-one-seo-pack
I’d just forgotten and when WP filled in the wrong combo, I just assumed it was the right one.
Apologies

In reply to: WP won’t accept passwordNo it isn’t, it’s my WordPress login. The username is fixed by WP and I use my Admin password to get the plugin upgraded via ftp. I do have another ftp name and pw to access the Server.
It’s worked fine for months and months and then suddenly today, it refuses to accept my password (it’s normally filled in, I just click on upgrade).
I’m afraid to logout of admin in case my password won’t let me back in!

In reply to: create a video content/youtube type sitewhy not use Vodpod?
Not only does it add the videos, it also creates a separate library (viewable onsite) and if you have Facebook/Myspace account, it’ll add them directly to it as well.

In reply to: The WordPress text editor sucksYes, I agree but even so, isn’t the back-end meant to take care of such things? As to offline editors, I’ve been using Marsedit since it came out but it doesn’t do everything unfortunately, I still have to tweak every post.
I use a very basic theme, plaintxt.blog as I like my layouts simple.
The mashing BTW, is largely confined to vodpod embedded videos, so I suspect it has to do either with the embed or object code (or both).

In reply to: Need IPs for MagpieRSSHi,
No, I had a string of RSS feeds in a sidebar but when I moved the site to a new server, they have very stringent security and block unknown IPs, so I tried to get info from Magpie but to no avail. I even joined their mailing list, left a msg. but I don’t even get the list let alone an answer.Bill

In reply to: [Plugin: Twitter Tools]Hey, I hope it works for you too, else I’m going to look a real Twit!

In reply to: [Plugin: Twitter Tools]Solution? Switch to an alternate plugin, that’s what I’ve done, it’s called Twitme <http://www.phpvrouwen.nl/twitme/>. I’ve had it with Twitter Tools, it’s more trouble than it’s worth and the switch to the bit.ly just seems to add another layer of complexity as it means I’ve got to add yet another plugin! All this does it add even more overhead.

PS: Deselect Twitter Tools before installing Twitme.
Hi,
Okay, my hosting co needs to know the Magpie URL so that I can get my RSS feeds to work.Bill
