In reply to: [Simply Static - The Static Site Generator] Brilliant!Thank you for the review, onsitenow! I’m glad to hear it has worked so well for you.
We will be offering a premium version of the plugin in the future. For now though, just knowing that you’re enjoying Simply Static is thanks enough 🙂
Best,
ScottP.S. For the next version I’ll take a look into adding a trim on those fields that you mentioned.
Hi Pierre,
Thanks for reporting this issue. I think I know what’s causing it — Simply Static is catching errors in other plugins and themes and halting as a result. I’ll be working on a fix for that.

In reply to: [Simply Static - The Static Site Generator] Version 2.0.0 Doesn’t Work For MeHi Mike,
I’ll be working on fixing this shortly. I did test this across a variety of different sites, WordPress versions, and PHP versions and didn’t run into any issues.
As far as I can tell based on the logs that folks are sending in, Simply Static is picking up on errors in other plugins and themes and halting when it encounters them. It seems like I made Simply Static a little too good at catching errors.
I’ll work on rolling back that aspect of it.

ScottP.S. Thanks for your offer to be a beta tester! I may well take you up on that.

In reply to: Exporting wordpress sites to portable static site.Hi Matt,
Simply Static has an option for creating a static copy of a WordPress site specifically with the intent of using it offline (e.g. on a CD/DVD or distributed as a zip).
Try it out and let me know if it meets your needs. If it doesn’t, let me know; I’d love to know what I can do to make it work for you. You can reach me at scott@codeofconduct.co. (Disclaimer: I am the creator of Simply Static.)
Best,
ScottHi Pierre!
Thank you for that explanation, that helps a bunch! So, you would like Simply Static to call the antispambot function any time it encounters a mailto: link.
That’s slightly outside of Simply Static’s core functionality, but I’ll certainly add it to my development list and think of how to best implement it. I may create a separate plugin for you since I haven’t heard any other requests for it yet.

In reply to: [Simply Static - The Static Site Generator] An error occurred:Hi Jenny,
I don’t have a good explanation for why that would be happening. I’m releasing a new version of Simply Static in the next week or two that will have an option for better debugging. If you can hold on just a bit, I think that’d be a good way to try and solve this.

In reply to: [Simply Static - The Static Site Generator] empty zipYes, will do!
Best,
ScottHi web27,
Thank you so much for taking the time to post all of that! That really helps. I’ve added this to my ticket tracking this issue. I believe I’ll have a fix for this in v2.0.0 of Simply Static, or if not, at least adding the necessary debugging to be able to better track down the cause.
Best,
ScottHi Pierre,
Sorry if that wasn’t terribly clear. What I’m trying to say is that Simply Static shouldn’t be adjusting any links that start with “mailto:”. As a result, I’m not sure why it’s adjusting them on your site. Would you be able to send me the URL for your WordPress site? scott@codeofconduct.co

In reply to: Simply Static: make/distribute copies for local hard drives?Hi dpbsmith,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I’ll have to give this a try on a Mac. Maybe there’s something I hadn’t considered there when generating the file paths.
I’ve got a note to take a look into this further.
Best,
ScottHi studioleland,
Thanks for the offer! I’m not presently in a good position to take on commission work, but feel free to drop me a line at scott@codeofconduct.co and I can keep you posted if that changes.

In reply to: [Simply Static - The Static Site Generator] empty zipHi Piet,
There have indeed been a few reports of folks ending up with an empty zip file. I’m releasing a new version of Simply Static (v2.0.0) in the next couple weeks that I’m hoping will fix this issue, or at least make it easier to determine the cause of the problem.

In reply to: [Simply Static - The Static Site Generator] Plugins will not work?Hi rolito,
1. No, you won’t lose any functionality in your WordPress site by installing Simply Static. What Simply Static does is let you create a static version of your site that you’d use separately from your WordPress installation. That static version is basically just a collection of HTML/text files, so it doesn’t have access to PHP or your database or anything, so from that standpoint certain things (e.g. comments) might not work on the static version that would work on your WordPress installation.
2. Nope, you don’t need to uninstall any plugins before installing Simply Static. In fact, some plugins work really well alongside Simply Static (e.g. Yoast SEO).
Hope that helps!
