I don’t know about that, tbrosman. Before leaving WordPress I’d take a close look at your web host. If you’re on a shared server it’s quite likely it’s simply overloaded. (A good host will be glad to move you to a less busy server.)
Darn Skipper! 🙂
Your calendar appears just fine at http://www.worldwellnesseducation.org/events/
and the event list version at http://www.worldwellnesseducation.org/events/upcoming/
(but your site seems slow)
Are you sure it’s not just because the other user has it open for editing (as per the warning on the top)?
It’s not that bad — you’re going to want to check out Shane’s migration tutorial at http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-the-events-calendar-walkthrough-the-6-steps-to-upgrading-from-165-to-20?replies=10
Oh absolutely, that’s the big difference between 1.x and 2x. (I thought you knew.) The new events are “custom post types” and are entered and maintained in a Events dashboard function separate from the regular Add Post function.
They don’t share categories with regular posts anymore either, which is one big reason I still prefer the old version.
I think we really need to put on different hats when working with the two versions, since they work quite differently.
Yeah, I love that my techphobic users can use one simple interface for entering posts or events, and that the two kinds of data can be intermixed through the site. So that’s why I’m sticking with TEC 1.x for now.
FYI, Noll, I don’t know of ANY other plugin that does what 1.6x does in treating events as regular WP posts; every other plugin uses a separate data structure and/or app for calendar management. The closest thing was Events Manager, who are going from a separate data structure to something very much like The Event Calendar 2’s custom posts. (The other big contender I checked out was Ajax Event Calendar.) If you find anything good please let us know…
I went to http://ors.comeze.com/events/ directly and saw the same problem, WITHOUT clicking anything.

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] [Plugin: The Events Calendar] TEC 1.65 Legacy SupportShane, I missed your responses on these — thank you very much for the detailed reply!
For what it’s worth, Skipper, when I go to http://shirleyandthemastics.com/events/ (without the “topics”) I do see your TEC calendar listing.
Personally I’m sticking with 1.65 for the time being.
The only thing you “missed”, I guess, is that as a non-WP-hacker I have no idea how to use register_taxonomy() to do that, and according to the other guys they can’t use regular categories for their custom posts in all respects. (They created their own categories in a taxonomy, or something.)
rvlawrence’s problem is that lots of existing plugins don’t yet know how to see or work with custom posts, so things that USED to work with regular post events (in TEC 1.6) don’t work for him in TEC 2.x.
If you use custom post types, those same plugins will be incompatible with your software.

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Categories in The Events CalendarUnless of course we consider posting events to our sites (with their descriptions and photos etc.) every bit as much a “blog update” as a new post about kittens is a blog update. 🙁
I understand, but I regret your decision.
I THINK rvlawrence meant to say please “let events be implemented as REGULAR post types” and NOT as “CUSTOM post types”.
The other plugin changed from the former approach (at least for its free version) to the latter approach, which has broken all sorts of things that were previously possible when the events were “just” regular posts.
(For me, the biggest change is that events can no longer have categories in common with other posts, greatly reducing flexibility. But there are other things that break when using custom posts.)
Anyway, if you’ve ever tried out TEC 1.x you’ve probably seen what we’re talking about.
If Events Manager can let events just be posts, that would be cool.
However, I do NOT know what rvlawrence means by “cripple the plugin” — I don’t think the other guys intentionally crippled anything?

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] [Plugin: The Events Calendar] Bad Download File 1.6.5It just worked for me. I think you just need to download it again (perhaps via a different browser or different machine).

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Categories in The Events CalendarSince they are still posts, albeit “custom posts”, using regular categories but requiring something like prefixing with “Tribe-” would seem a more amenable possibility…
