Switching the theme and reconfiguring the current one will be too time consuming unless there is an easy way to do that. I can try disabling some plugins and see if that helps. I suspected at first Wordfence and disabled it when I first experienced the problem but that did not make a difference.
Is it possible that the file in question may be corrupt? They have not upgraded to the latest WordPress either.
I will play with the plugins and report back.

Twitter took two tries but worked. Then I published a test post and it appeared on all the connections. I think your magic work behind the scenes fixed the problem. I can now connect to the social media from my site and the published posts go to their destination. Thank you.

I thought the last post would have been a test of the system, I will redo the connections and wait until I have something to post I guess. However, I have a different problem. I have several social media accounts on facebook, Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Tumblr and a new post I published 10 minutes ago did not get pushed to any of them. The sharing settings show that they are all connected. Later on I will manually add the new post to those, I thought I would wait in case there is another faucet you can open and let all the waiting work be done!

I guess this is the price of being a very long time WordPress and JetPack user! But I do appreciate your help in bringing at least some parts of my site to up to date.
You will let me know when all is done, right? Are there other issues I should be concerned with related to legacy versions of WordPress being updated over the years I wonder?

I appreciate the help and am quite curious how you make the changes on my JetPack. Is it on WordPress.com or on my site you are making these changes, just curious.
