Support » Plugin: Custom Sidebars - Dynamic Widget Area Manager » Widget Appearing Where It Shouldn’t

  • I recently moved to Custom Sidebars after retiring Display Widgets WordPress Plugin.

Things were progressing nicely until I ran into this issue. I have a set of “Related Post”-type widgets I only want to appear on pages of a very specific custom post type. However, in addition to properly appearing on that post type the widget with that setting is also displaying on some other pages that are not of that post type.

The above page is a search page for all posts of that custom post type, but clearly isn’t that post type itself and yet, notice the several widgets there that make no sense given the context. The old widget plugin we used had no such issue with this.

    How do I fix this?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • @agrajag27 I have the same problem, one of my widgets is set to only show on a certain product category page. However it is visible on my main shop page when it shouldn’t be…

Sorry I can’t give you any help, but I hope the developers can take a look and solve the problem!

    Here’s my page: http://www.lchydraulics.co.uk/shop/

The “JCB Seal Kit Finder” widget should only show up on the JCB Seal Kit product category and product pages.

Other plugins pull this off with ease. I’d prefer to use this one as it’s also built into our theme.

    Hello @agrajag27,

Can you send us screenshot of your settings? I mean sidebar location setting and also widget visibility settings.

    kind regards,
    Kasia

Sure. I’ll include several here for you to consider. Remember that what I will show you was not a problem with the previous widget that has now been orphaned, so it wasn’t a custom post coding issue on our end.

Main Widget Page (note the use of several Related Post widgets):

A shot of the settings for one of those Related Post widgets:

Example of the sidebar in the correct context. This is where these widgets should appear:

Correct Sidebar when the page is showing all standard Category = Movies (Note, none of the Related Post Type widgets appearing:

Incorrect Sidebar. This is like the above page but shows a listing of all our Movie Reviews sorted by most recent. They are all custom post type “movie-review”, but this PAGE is NOT and the other plugins didn’t somehow make this assumption even though the URL has “Movie-Review” in it. There should be no sidebars here:

Thanks. Let me know if you need anything else.

    Hello @agrajag27,

Thank for the screenshots. I was able to setup similar site with that and I was able to replicate this issue with visibility. I will talk with developer about that, why this setting also covers archive pages for terms related to post type.

At the moment I can propose solution that will only display widgets on single post type pages. Instead of hide/show single widgets create a new sidebar with those widegts that should show only on post types and in sidebar location setup “For all Single Entries matching selected criteria” and select sidebar you want to replace for ” for selected Post Types” and put there movies

That way those widgets will show only on single post type pages.

    kind regards,
    Kasia
