Unfortunately, these issues can occur because of many different reasons. There could be a conflict with the website theme, another plugin, the website can have JavaScript errors, and etc.
For those of you who would like to get a quick fix, please install the following version of the plugin:
https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/photo-gallery.1.4.17.zip
Make sure to deactivate and delete the current version, then install 1.4.17.

Okay, I updated to the most recent version today, and changed my cache plugin’s (W3TC) minification settings to manual, turning off the javascript minification completely, and that seems to have fixed the problem for our site.
I think it’s a combination of the latest version of the plugin and the settings, because we tried turning off the cache plugin completely before, and it made no difference.

I have reported this to our development team, so they can test the JavaScript files against minification. Hopefully, they will figure out the issues and fix them with an update.

I am the webmaster for dunfermlinemodelaeroclub.co.uk and have the same problem. The site has a number of galleries none of which can be viewed by the public and we have the infinite spinner. If I however log in as administrator all the galleries work ok.
I have been been monitoring this thread for about a week and have tried the various suggestions but nothing has shifted the problem. I have not been able to try jaminjames fix because we do not have a cache!
We are running 2014 theme which was updated recently. Like popalkael I cannot be certain when the problem started as I have tended to check the galleries as administrator.

Thanks for describing the problem in detail. The issue is not related to caching particularly, as we all found out at the end, but the minification feature of the cache plugin.
This means, that in case you have a JavaScript minifier plugin, you can be experiencing the same issue. Could you please check that and let us know?

Hi, some more information about my issue with Havo50forum.org. I have also fixed the problem, see last para.
I am not sure when it stopped working correctly but the effect is as follows:
1. I can create a gallery OK and import photos into it.
2. When I preview the gallery the browser (edge windows 10) goes to the following address http://havo50forum.org/blog/bwg_gallery/2018-summer-garden-party/ When I hover over an image in preview the thumbnail expands. When I click on it, it goes to the slideshow and works OK.
2. When I come out of the preview and go into the gallery via the website at http://havo50forum.org/blog/photo-gallery/ (a gallery group) the group shows OK and when I then go into any of the sub-galleries I can click on the thumbnail, which expands, but it does not go into the slideshow. It’s as though it doesn’t switch correctly.
When I add a wordpress page which just contain a single gallery then the slideshow works OK, but the page shows all the images rather than a selection of galleries.
I have tried gallery on another website and it appears to work OK, so somethings happened within the main website to stop it working.
I have also just fixed my problem by creating a new gallery group, when I use that and go into the individual galleries slideshow works. So the problem was that the original gallery group was corrupt in some way???

Thank you for describing the problem and troubleshooting the issue thoroughly. There is a possibility, that the initial gallery group could be corrupted. However, we haven’t encountered similar issues before.
Is it possible that the initial gallery group was created with a quite old version of Photo Gallery? Also, is the non-working gallery group available now or have you deleted it?
If you do have it published on a test page, could you please share its link?

As a result of ramondox’s work I decided to create a test page with gallery using the latest version of Gallery (1.5.4). No change, works ok as administrator but not viewable as public and infinite spinner.

Hi Support. I am sorry but I have deleted the gallery group and cannot get it back easily.
It was created on an old version of photo-gallery. Possibly created about 18 months ago. The group with the problem wasn’t corrupt as such as I could add and remove galleries into it, and each gallery was accessible through the group. As I said it’s only when you click on a photo in each gallery using the group as an entry point I got the problem of the photo not opening in slideshow. It’s as though the link from the photo to the slideshow application didn’t work when using the old gallery group.
I have now tested using the new group from a web page,and the galleries themselves from pages and they all enter slideshow OK.
I am using version 1.5.4 and everything now seems fine, although updating to 1.5.4 was not the solution. The solution was to create a new group.

I had to create a new gallery group to fix my problem. When you say you created a test page using gallery did you just add an old gallery to the page, or did you create a new gallery and use that in the page. I had to create a new gallery group and then add that to the page.

Thanks to Agapi Gharibyan for the swift response to my problem. I confirm that de activating Bullet Proof Security fixes the problem. I do not want to run the site without BPS so I have contacted BPS support to investigate this conflict.
