Multisite not reflecting SEO Settings
-
We have a multi-site. All the sub-sites properly load in all the SEO info applied to those pages. But the main site does not register what’s entered for SEO on individual pages. It will show content entered on a global content-type level, but ignores individual page content. Any idea how to fix?

@christiemade We’re sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue on your site.
Can you please confirm you are using the most recent release of Yoast SEO version 16.4? You can learn more about updating here: https://yoast.com/help/how-can-i-update-my-free-plugin/
Also, can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.7.2? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider. Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/
If you update to the most current version of WordPress and Yoast SEO, does this resolve the issue?
If you have confirmed both WordPress, Yoast SEO, and all of your site’s other plugins and themes are up to date and the problem is still occurring, we would next recommend performing a conflict check. A plugin or theme conflict can sometimes cause functionality problems, errors, or unexpected behavior from the plugin. If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we have a step by step guide on how to check for conflicts available here: How to check for plugin conflicts.
Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check without affecting normal visitors to your site.
Can you please confirm you have performed a complete conflict check by disabling other plugins, and resetting the theme to a default such as TwentyTwentyOne and let us know the results?
If you do not feel comfortable to do this yourself or if this does not solve your issue, our Yoast SEO Premium plugin comes with one year of (technical) support.
Yes, I have Version 16.4 installed of Yoast and WP version 5.7.2.
I did already check that it wasn’t the theme previously by switching to TwentyTwentyOne, and the problem still happened.
I had not tried the plugins before as we do no have many installed, but I just disabled all except Yoast and it still happens.
Thanks for your confirmation. We are lost when you said, “the main site does not register what’s entered for SEO on individual pages. It will show content entered on a global content-type level, but ignores individual page content.”
Can you please share a quick video explaining the issue you’re currently experiencing so that we can understand the issue better? How to include screenshots or videos?
This video shows what’s going on: First site I look at is main site, you can see the custom meta description does not show up. The video cuts off at the end, but basically, the second site, a sub-site, the description shows up just fine.

Hi @christiemade,
We’re not able to reproduce the problem you’re seeing, so here are some other troubleshooting steps you can try:
1. Check for JavaScript errors with your console on the edit screen.
2. Check your PHP error log for any error messages. You can do this by enabling WordPress debugging or on a production site, contact your web host.
3. Confirm that your site and developement server meets the plugin’s minimum requirements? You can often find these details by going to Tools > Site Health > Info in WordPress.
If you didn’t find any conflicts or errors, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.`
We are going ahead and marking this issue as resolved due to inactivity. If you require any further assistance please create a new issue.
