bbPress sidebar

bbPress sidebar has disappeared. I was having the same problem as
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/1-4-seemingly-breaks-or-hides-the-forum-topics-etc/
and after playing around with it in troubleshooting mode the sidebar disappeared entirely, and if I try to replace/append it anywhere (other than none) I get the following message.
