Can’t replace sidebars
-
Good evening.
I have just built up this website http://www.offin.it/ and installed Custom Sidebars to replace the default sidebars of the theme Twenty Seventeen.
Actually, I need to replace the lateral sidebar just in a few pages. I set up the custom sidebar on the Widget page. Then, on the page settings, selected to replace the lateral sidebar with my one. Well, no changes.
The page I customized is http://www.offin.it/negozio/. Insteal of a calendar, there should appear some WooCommers widget (like search and filters) I putted inside the custom sidebar.
Hope you could help. Thank you.

Hello @offingenova
Hope you are doing well!
Please make sure that the Allow this sidebar to be replaced is checked, like it is shown bellow, go to Appearance > Widgets, click to open the theme’s sidebar:

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you for your replay. The checkbox is pinned, so the sidebar should be replaceble. Seems the plugin makes not effect.
Other idea?
Hi @offingenova,
Are you looking to replace sidebars on posts or pages?
The thing is that Twenty Seventeen doesn’t have sidebars on pages, only on posts.
Custom Sidebars works in a way that it replaces existing sidebars, and since 2017 doesn’t call sidebar on page there’s nothing to replace. You could have a look at this guide to call sidebar on 2017 pages and then you’ll be able to replace them per page:

PredragHello. Thank you for your reply.
As mentioned, it doesn’t matter if I can’t add sidebars on new pages. I need to replace a sidebar on the auto-created WooCommerce pages.
Probably, when it creates e-commerce pages, WooCommerce plugin inherit templates from posts, infact lateral sidebar is shown on those pages (I am not sure, I am just supposing). Look at
http://offin.it/negozio/
there is a calendar at right.
Since I set calendar inside the lateral sidebar, it shows the same calendar I can see browsing through blog posts. Now, I tried to replace the lateral sidebar only on the WooCommerce pages, using the custom sidebar plugin menu (replace lateral sidebar with a custom one). But changes do not effect and calendar is still there.
I also tried to switch off all plugins -no way. And I am not able to customize a child template, unfortunately. Hope you can help me.
Thank you.
Hi @offingenova,
Apologies for the delay here.
It seems like this works a bit differently with 2017 and woocommerce, woocommerce adds sidebar on page but default 2017 layout doesn’t support sidebars and when you replace it with custom sidebars from page settings it doesn’t pull the sidebar from there.
What you would need to do is go to Appearance > Widgets panel, and in there first make sure that sidebar is replaceable as Nastia mentioned above and then for the custom sidebar that you want to use click on Sidebar Location:

In there expand “For Archives” section, enable “As Sidebar for selected Archive Types” and select “Product Archives”:

Let us know if this worked for you as well.

I really thank you for your support. It finally works! Thanks. Cheers.
Hi Predrag,
Im having similar issues. I’ve made all of the changes suggested above. I have the option to select my custom sidebar on the post, but when I push it live it always reverts back to theme sidebar. Can you help? We would definitely be interested to upgrading to pro if we can prove out the use case.
Here is an example page: http://home-dev.youvisit.com/insight/hotels-and-resorts/hilton-waikiki-uses-vr-to-stand-out-from-competition/
Look forward to hearing from you.
Hi @davidkobi,
This thread is 4 months old and there were couple of changes in code since then so the issues are most likely unrelated and per forum rules it would be best to start your own thread and we’ll check it out.
Could you test this with default WP theme like Twenty Sixteen and include the results in your thread so we can see if the issue is theme related.
Cheers,
Predrag
