In reply to: [Plugin: SEO Title Tag] WARNING! Messed up my entyre blogVery happy to hear you were able to recover your data!
Your thoughts are shared by me: It is a good plugin indeed and it would be a waste if these problems were not addressed by the developer.
Again, happy to hear about your recovery.
Cheers!

In reply to: [Plugin: SEO Title Tag] Wiped Out All My Custom FieldsUpdate:
The person mentioned in my previous post has added that even version 2.1.4 will mess up your tags.
My site does not use tags so I had no problems with 2.1.4.
Important:
If your site uses tags, please do NOT install version 2.1.4 or version 2.2.0 of this plugin.
Even if your site does not use tags, please do NOT install version 2.2.0 of this plugin under ANY circumstances until this issue is resolved.

In reply to: [Plugin: SEO Title Tag] WARNING! Messed up my entyre blogHello again, caututilaje.
Didn’t see your second post (took too long writing my initial post).
Just to clarify my experience:
My problem was with upgrading to Version 2.2.0. I had no problems with 2.1.4 but my site does not use tags at all so that may explain it.
Hope you can get your site back online quickly.
Again, sorry about your loss.

In reply to: [Plugin: SEO Title Tag] WARNING! Messed up my entyre blogHello,
Sorry to hear about your trouble, caututilaje.
Looks like I had the same experience four days ago (post meta data wiped out completely):
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/180354
As mentioned in my post, I was using version 2.1.4 of this plugin without problems but an upgrade to version 2.2.0 basically killed my site (it relied heavily on custom fields in posts).
While I am not an expert, my guess is that activating the latest version of the plugin wipes out all post meta data (which includes, if I am not mistaken, custom fields, categories and tags).
Here is what did NOT WORK for me:
2) Checking tables and repairing tables in database through PHP MyAdmin.
The data was simply gone – there was nothing wrong with my database or any tables within. As far as I can see, it does not corrupt the tables, just deletes all the post meta data.
3) Posting in this forum.
My post went unanswered for four (4) days. Maybe the author is on vacation and very few people are using this plugin…?
Here is what DID WORK for me:
My hosting company has daily, weekly and monthly backups. I emailed them and asked them to roll back my server to a previous restore point.
That wiped out all of my changes to the site after that restore point. I had to input (and in some cases research) all of my custom field data again so it took me about eleven hours to bring my site back to it’s original state.
If your site is new with very few posts and/or very little post meta data, you may just be better off reassigning categories and tags yourself.
Again, I am NOT an expert. What worked for me may not work for you and/or may not be the best way to reverse the damage.
I am sorry to hear about your loss and I hope you can get your site back online faster than I did.
Best Regards.

In reply to: [Plugin: SEO Title Tag] Wiped Out All My Custom FieldsUpdate:
Looks like I am not the only one who had their blog literally wiped out by the latest version of this plugin:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/181375
The latest version (2.2.0) of SEO Title Tags may contain a serious bug that messes up your database.
While I am no expert, my guess is that that wipes out all your post’s custom fields and meta data.
As with the other person who experienced problems (see above link), all my category data was wiped out and all posts returned to default category. I didn’t get the tag error mentioned by the other person because my site does not use tags (but it makes sense – if a post’s meta data are wiped out, any tag data would be wiped out as well).
Please do NOT UPGRADE to the latest version of this plugin!

In reply to: [Plugin: SEO Title Tag] Wiped Out All My Custom Fields…back to using Version 2.1.4 of this *plugin* (not problem!) and it seems to be working fine…
Sorry, it has been a long day. 😛

In reply to: [Plugin: SEO Title Tag] Wiped Out All My Custom FieldsAdditional Information:
Well, it took eleven hours but I finally managed to get my site online again.
Unfortunately, getting it online was a matter of blood, sweat and tears (entering all my custom field data again) and I am no closer to discovering why my data were dropped upon upgrading this plugin.
“Post hoc, ergo propter hoc.” is a logical fallacy so, until someone can duplicate this error we really can’t conclude that this plugin was at fault.
It could have been a server-side database access or hardware error but I doubt it (we ran CHECK TABLE on our database tables and they were all OK).
Another thing I should mention is that I did not upgrade automatically. I deactivated the plugin, erased the old plugin files, uploaded the new files and reactivated the plugin manually.
Also, I am back to using Version 2.1.4 of this problem and and it seems to be working fine.
Just to be on the safe side, you may want to forgo the latest upgrade. If you do decide to take the jump to 2.2.0, please *backup* your database!
P.S. If anybody can answer the two questions in my first post, it would be greatly appreciated. I would consider trying to upgrade again if there were a compelling reason to do so (security update or must-have features).
Cheers!
