Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: Other ways of getting help or support?Paying someone isn’t an option, my client is a charity so it’s out of the question to throw money at the problem, It’s a very basic site at present, but I need to either get the tags and categories back or look at re-installing. Or worse still re-doing the site. I don’t want to do anything drastic unnecessarily, especially as I don’t know that a re-install will fix the problem.
It’s just frustrating because WordPress is a gem 99.9% of the time, but getting support for the odd wierd problem feels like finding a needle in a haystack 😉

In reply to: Can’t change the category of postsOk, just noticed that none of my posts have tags anymore. The tags are still there and I can select them, but like the categories I can’t get any changes to save.

In reply to: tags & categories not workingPascal, do you know what the host company changed or how the issue was resolved? I have exactly the same problem, so I’m curious how you fixed it.

In reply to: Recovering posts from a site backupYep, I think in practice the complete cpanel backup wasn’t as complete as expected heh. I’ve got most of the content in the old blog at Blogger so I’ll just re-do what I did the last time.. All the pages were from old html ones and were backed up on this PC which is fortunate.
I’m careful backing things up too usually, I just didn’t realize I wasn’t backing the databases up along with the website. Oopsie! My bad for not double checking in the first place. I don’t think there are many missing posts though, so it could have been much worse.
Appreciate the advice you’ve all offered though 🙂

In reply to: Recovering posts from a site backupNone of the .sql files seem to contain any posts. It’s odd, because all the minor bits like the forum have their own database file, yet the folder I have with the subdomain files doesn’t have anything resembling a database inside. I just wondered if there were specific file names that wordpress used to help track them down more easily.
I’ll keep looking, there’s a stack of files to nose through 🙂 I had pulled most of the blog’s posts over from Blogger, so I can repeat that if they have gone AWOL. It’s just to avoid re-doing the pages I had set up and get back the more recent posts I made.
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: Problems activating and deactivating pluginsAha, yeah I wasn’t sure if I’d really break a plugin by deleting it heh. You’re right though, that got rid of the unwanted one!
I’ll keep trying with the others 🙂
Couple of things I’ve just noticed, the plugin that won’t activate highlights white instead of yellow and I get the same confirmation message problem if I try to deactivate all plugins too.
