In reply to: Theme SwitchingTry a search for theme switcher plugin. I’m not sure which ones if any work on which versions any more; you can find links to some from Plugins.

In reply to: How do I get my old Header backWell, that would be my next move, if this were me. Alternatively, just re-upload the entire theme folder if you haven’t made any changes.

In reply to: How do I get my old Header backOkay. In the Tools menu (top of browser IE6; right side of browser IE7), select Internet Options.
[This is taking me a long time, because I don’t use IE though I have numerous versions, so I have to look at both 6 and 7 to see where stuff is….]
On the screen that opens, you’ll see [IE6] Temporary Internet Files or [IE7] Browsing History. Both offer a Delete button, IE6 Delete Files; IE7 Delete which when clicked offers another menu.
IE6: click the button, click OK. IE7: click the button, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.
Once that’s done, close the browser window. Reopen the browser. Load the page. Then hold down the CTRL key while you hit the F5 key.

In reply to: gentoo hard-masked wordpress due to too many…Nope, opinion, not feedback…. and in over 20 years with various MS OSes, I haven’t had one security incursion, virus, worm etc.
So I don’t really worry much, because what I do works. And I do NOT allow the OS to decide what programs I run.

In reply to: Get me out of akismet’s black hole AGAIN, please? Can’t fault it on that at least. Now if it just worked as well on some of my clients’ wp installs….

In reply to: Site keeps switching back to default themeOh wow. WHAT a creative solution! You go…. doesn’t matter if it’s an ugly kludge workaround as long as it keeps the whole system gurgling along!

In reply to: Get me out of akismet’s black hole AGAIN, please?I know, sweetheart…. it’s just pretty annoying that I’ve been a regular poster here for 2.5 years and the damned thing STILL thinks I’m spamming…. even though I’ve NEVER ONCE spammed…. *sigh*
Oh well….

In reply to: gentoo hard-masked wordpress due to too many…*shrug* I’m not using the 2.1 branch at all, and I’m certainly not using any wp with gentoo…. but then again, if my OS decided I couldn’t use something because my OS thought it was “against my best interests”, I’m pretty sure I’d:
A. NOT be a happy camper; and
B. find another OS.

In reply to: Category post locationSure….
Your original wp install would have set itself up as (probably) table prefix wp_ – verify this by looking at wp-config.php.
So you can make a subfolder on your webspace, naming it “blog2” or whatthehellever, and in the wp-config.php file for that install, you use the same database info as the first install, but where the file asks for “prefix” info, you input blog2_ (using whatever you like for the prefix).
Done this way, the second install doesn’t even get the option of making a second db.
[Really though, if you’re with a host only allowing 1 db, you might look into other hosts – that’s so far back in the 90’s it’s not funny….]
