My hosting provider hinted me on that: “I see that you’re attempting to troubleshoot the installation of a newer version of WooCommerce, however our techs have been seeing your site spike above memory usage, which can sort of muddy the water. I took a look into what’s happening when your site is loaded and found that it was loading a *lot* of WordFence firewall processes before ever getting to the cached content. I believe this may be why your site has been using over 800MB of memory (which is very high for a cached WordPress installation).
I’d highly suggest disabling this plugin (or the firewall functionality) to bring down your usage. We can then more clearly investigate your issue installing a more recent version of WooCommerce.”

But please solve this issue as older versions are at risk of getting spoilt. Also, the setup wizard didn’t launch when I manually added the 3.9.3 version.
