QUERY:
I’ve tried deleting and installing the plugin numerous times but every time I activate it I get the message above. When in recovery mode, I see an error in two plugins, rank math and woocommerce. Check the image (https://ibb.co/WxrY5Tw) Any ideas what is the real cause of the error?

@vivianaverse My guess is there might be another conflicting plugin installed on the site that is stopping WooCommerce from working correctly and crashing your site. You may verify that by running a full conflict test.
You’ll want to temporarily switch your theme to Storefront. Then, disable all plugins on the site except for WooCommerce, and test for the issue.
If you are able to activate WooCommerce without the site crashing, you’ll then have to re-enable features one by one, while testing for the issue; until you find out which one is causing this behavior.
We recommend that these steps are taken on a staging site, which is a clone of your live site that you can modify without risking making any permanent damage to your live site. You can create it using a plugin like WP-Staging.

Have you been able to complete the testing as outlined by Fernando? It’s important to rule out a conflict first, as there is an ongoing bug open, but the developers need to know that the issue persists with only WooCommerce core active.
I tried it. Deactivated all plugins except woocommerce and switched to storefront theme. Got the same error.

Could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status.
Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.I cannot find it. The woocommerce plugin is paused and hence I don’t see it in the dashboard’s sidebar.
So I installed WooCommerce version 3.9.3 and it’s working perfectly fine. Found the solution here: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/25895#issuecomment-598888281
Thanks for the update. Are you now able to update to the most recent version of WooCommerce, without any other plugins active?
No. I tried updating from version 3.9.3 but got the same error. 3.9.3 is working perfectly though. But please solve this issue as older versions are at risk of getting spoilt. Also, the setup wizard didn’t launch when I manually added the 3.9.3 version. So I’m not able to set up the plugin the right way.

I have had three websites go down and the only thing in common is Woocommerce – Wordfence has not been updated in four weeks – but if I disable that plugin by renaming the folder my websites came back.
I reinstalled Wordfence on all three and everything is OK.
Now that I have my sites back up and running I am not going to do anymore testing

Any updates?@vivianaverse I’m not sure what could be causing this issue on the site.
The thread you linked to in GH, references issues with the installation of the Action Scheduler. Is that the same thing you are seeing when the critical error happens?
If that’s the case, you can try the suggestion that was given on this comment:

The wordfence firewall was causing the issue. My hosting provider hinted me on that: “I see that you’re attempting to troubleshoot the installation of a newer version of WooCommerce, however our techs have been seeing your site spike above memory usage, which can sort of muddy the water. I took a look into what’s happening when your site is loaded and found that it was loading a *lot* of WordFence firewall processes before ever getting to the cached content. I believe this may be why your site has been using over 800MB of memory (which is very high for a cached WordPress installation).
I’d highly suggest disabling this plugin (or the firewall functionality) to bring down your usage. We can then more clearly investigate your issue installing a more recent version of WooCommerce.”
After disabling the firewall, I was able to update it without any issues.@vivianaverse you may want to check out some posts over on Wordfence Support
