Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Website down with “Fatal error”Right, so I’ve fixed it myself with some extensive Googling.
I used this thread for help: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/fatal-error-when-upgrade/
This is the suggestion I took:
Had the same problem. I just disabled the w3-total-cache as instructed above > ~w3-total-cache
Then i disabled /wp-content/object-cache.php in the same way > ~object-cache.php
Then when I enabled w3-total-cache by removing the ~ again, it automatically created a new object-cache.php file and everything worked fine!
What I did was disable all plugins by renaming to plugin-hold (already done before I started), then disable object cache by renaming as above. I then reactivated my plugins by renaming to how it originally was. Immediately, everything worked. I’m going to stick with the generic theme for a while and take out some plugins because I don’t want something this complicated to happen again.

In reply to: Website down with “Fatal error”Well, it’s really helpful to say that now. Aside from which, what’s the point in backing up a site that doesn’t work?
Is there not an actual support team on WordPress? I really need a live chat or call service where someone can just walk me through all the possible fixes in plain English.

In reply to: Website down with “Fatal error”I have a backup, but surely I’m going to run into the same problem again as soon as I try to update? Besides the fact I have no idea how to get the backup loaded in and which directories to save stuff into. I can’t just keep it on the old wordpress version forever.

In reply to: Website down with “Fatal error”I just had someone else’s help to go through the guide to manually update WordPress. I’ve done that, deleted all non-generic themes, and the site is still not working. I’ve deleted most of my plugins, I’ve lost all my theme settings, and it’s still not made any difference.

In reply to: Website down with “Fatal error”Like I said, I wasn’t able to get into phpMyAdmin. I’m hosted with LCN.

In reply to: Website down with “Fatal error”There’s no team – just me. I have no idea how to use phpMyAdmin or to be honest even if I have one. I followed the instructions on that link to log in to cPanel and both of the browser address options are throwing up the same error as I have with wp-admin anyway.

In reply to: Website down with “Fatal error”@binarywc I really can’t remember which theme I have. I can see my list of them but not which one is activated. I’ve turned all my plugins off so they shouldn’t be affecting things anymore anyway?

In reply to: Website down with “Fatal error”Arnel – Thanks for that link but it lists the things I have already discussed above. I don’t know how to do what is being suggested without destroying my whole site even further. As I said, I’m not experienced in the behind-the-scenes stuff, which is basically why I went for a WordPress site in the first place.
