I would prefer this as a theme option, so that the user can decide full width or not.
However, the suggestion you propose seems to be a good workaround.

I suggest to adapt the layout in a way that the user can select
if gallery and banner span the full width of the screen or
if a page contains sidebar, so that gallery and banner span only the full width minus sidebar width.
It seems to me that making sidebars configurable is not a huge effort from a layout point of view. However I see the commercial point of view when people need to upgrade to get a kind of sidebar feature with the pagebuilder template.
